Shirley's Story

My life since I left you all in June 1966... I spent 1 year at Penn State, then returned to SoCal. While continuing college, I worked as a Disneyland Ride Operator where I met Bob (my wonderful husband of 45 years and counting). In 1970 we married and Disney immediately moved us to Orlando, FL, where we lived 18 years and raised our 3 kids. Our daughter Kate (dob 1971) is a Graphic Designer in Austin, TX where she lives with her husband James and a succession of Grand-dogs, currently 4. Elizabeth (dob 1974), "Super Mom!", is a credentialed K-8 teacher who is currently substitute teaching which allows her the choice to be a stay-at-home mom to the WORLD's MOST PERFECT GRANDCHILDREN, Abbie and Josh, which she loves. Rob (dob 1979) is our computer wizard, specializing in hardware and software applications in Seattle, WA, where he lives with his Love, Xiaoji. In 1988, Disney relocated us from FL to back to SoCal, where we currently live in Murrieta, near the Temecula wine country of the high desert. I retired in 2001 from the workforce, and I am waiting (a bit impatiently) for Bob to fully retire when he's ready, so that we can start RVing through the USA. We want to take a sweeping tour to visit all the grand old lodges of the National Park System before they fall into disrepair due to lack of federal funding. I keep busy by volunteering, dabbling in various art media-(sketching, textile arts), sewing, jewelry designing, floral design, reading, cooking, traveling, gardening, yoga, Zumba, and pretty much doing whatever else catches my fancy. I welcome contact from my classmates who might remember me. I was the California girl who showed up the first day of our Junior year in her red sundress and red shoes! enny loafers and more reserved colors were the PA style? Not me 😋 I'm sure you all must have thought I had arrived from Mars! 👽 Though I was only at Tennent for my Junior and Senior years (1964-66), I have so many fond memories of good times-- cheering at football games with Sharon Lombardi jumping around in the Panther suit, going to the first dance of the year and having Howard Pope teach me the Bristol Stomp (wasn't easy to get a proper "stomp" in flats!), Mr. Zorn messing up his Chemistry experiment demos, reading Othello in Mr. DiNardo's English 5 class (he turned red when it got to the "She is no strumpet!", line (referring to Bianca/me), and we all laughed), going to Nicks for cheesesteaks (I miss these to this day!), and the many "accidental adventures" driving the back roads of Bucks County, getting good and lost while trying to find an "alternate" route to Doylestown. Those were very good times, indeed. Being teenagers, we were blissfully unaware of what life would require of us when we became adults. Now we are Boomers, of all things, with AARP cards. And who is that "mature" woman in the mirror? I swear, if one more grocery store bagger asks me if I'd like help to my car, I'll lose it. Seriously, though, I've been blessed with a wonderful man with whom to share my life, 3 fabulous kids, 2 perfect grandkids, good health, loving family and friends, and a comfortable lifestyle. And regarding getting older, I really am okay with it. After all, it's far better than the alternative... So, here we are coming up on 50 years!!!! since we graduated. I'm very excited to be coming our 50th reunion in October. I hope to see all of my Tennent friends there. Maybe I'll see if I can find a red dress and shoes to wear!💃🏻
