Shelly's Story

After Cookson Hills I moved to Missouri. I lived there about 2 years. I went to college in Moberly, a town that my daughter and I visited a few summers ago, and found to be a thriving, growing town. When I left Moberly I lived in Eldon, Mo. a while. Eldon is at the top of the Lake of the Ozarks, which is a beautiful place. I then moved to Wickam Market. A little town 20 miles from Ipswich in England. A storybook place. From there on to Oklahoma City. After that I lived in California for 24 years, until 1993. About that time California became unlivable. I guess I always thought of Stockton as home there but I lived all over the place. My X worked building Highway 5 and 10 and the California Aquaduct. During that time I got to live in Fresno, Bakersfield, Blythe, Visalia, Coalinga, Frazier Park/Lebec, and some other places that I can't think of right now. I did spend a lot of time in Santa Cruz. I actually happened to be there during the Oct.17,1989 earthquake. We were hiking on the Loma Prieta Trail which is where the earthquake happened on Oct 10, 1989. Quite an experience! I got to camp many times in Yosemite, go to Disneyland a couple of times (also Universal Studios) and spent a lot of time in San Francisco. I also spent time in the most beautiful part of CA (and un-peopled part). The north west coast clear up to Brookings, OR. I got to go up to Seattle on a train and go to Expo 86' in Vancouver, BC. Oh and my favorite park in CA is the Big Trees at Arnold. Sequoyah is cool too. At some point CA became a large state of Mexico and I felt it was time to leave. We then moved to West Valley City which is the 2nd largest city in Utah though so many people have never heard of it, because it's a suburb of Salt Lake. It's a great place in some ways but it is a large city and the crime is getting worse. There were good things there though. It was sooo cool being there in 2002 for the Olympics. And I have been LDS (A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints ) for 44 years. Some people call us Mormons because we have The Book of Mormon, as well as the Bible. Anyway that's a cool place to be if you're a member. In 2007, we moved down to St. George, UT. It's 112 miles northeast of Las Vegas. We loved it there. No snow, very little anyway. Hot but not as hot as Las Vegas and no humidity! And everyplace is so air conditioned that you freeze half the time. We went to this town of 140 thousand for our youngest daughter to go to Tuacahn Performing Arts School. Plus we missed our granddaughter who already lived there. Now we have a grandson and another granddaughter there. So it was a good place to be. Our daughter ended up getting full scholarship to Southern Utah University. She is a 4.0 student who homeschooled through the 8th grade. I have 4 living kids, and one that died with SIDS, which was my first. He died in England and that is why we came back to the states. Another son died in 2017 at the age of 36 so I changed that to 4 living kids, I love the computer and have been online since about 1995. Tari and I have already kept in touch all of these years. I just wish that we hadn't moved across the country from each other. It would be nice to know what happened to Rene' Stallard, and Cletus & Patricia Carter. Also I still miss Betty and Melinda Smith. from Cookson Hills. I have talked to Betty and Dana and also Ramona. I also talked to Mom Dunn, who has since died. I saw Hallums when they came to Stockton about 20 years ago. There are lots of people I would like to hear about, like Melvin, the sassaf...Expand for more
ras root tea maker. We have traveled back east a lot. (That doesn't mean the east coast. When you are in CA it's anything east of there and in UT it is anything east of UT. (Excuse me for explaining that if it's something everyone knows.) In 1993 the kids and I went on kind of a trip of a life time through 13 states. It was so fun. We were gone for 3 months and a week! We went from California to Utah by way of Arizona, New Mexico Texas Okla, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota and Wyoming and into Utah.. A few of the things we enjoyed along the the way were camping at the Grand Canyon, Carlsbad Caverns, Arbuckle Wilderness, Cookson Hills, the Passion Play in Eureka Springs, the Osmonds in Branson, Nauvoo, the Grotto of Redemption, The Mall of America, the Corn Palace and Mount Rushmore. We went in to Salt Lake on Pioneer day and took the same basic route that the pioneers took. I've gone by Cookson Hills a couple of times. My memories of there are great. I guess I'll close this because I'm getting tired and the air conditioner is about to freeze me out and I refuse to leave this until it's finished. Oh yes, I'm on facebook under Shelly Iles.. See you there. 3/29/09 Violet and her drama partner went to a regional drama competition in Cedar City Friday. They got a superior rating. Now they go to Provo or Orem up North to compete there. Tuacahn, where she goes to school, is considered the best in the drama competitions in the region. I don't know how many states are in the region but I know California is in this region. I wish so much that more people were on here. Where are the people from Pleasant Hill?! 12/01/10 We bought a beautiful 5 bedroom house here in St George, in 2010. We're loving the house and this climate. I have been very involved in conservative politics this year. Violet is loving SUU She has a new boyfriend, ( now husband) whose name is Michael (and is also in the honors program). She is loving the honors program and is the Resident scholar of her dorm, which helps with the price of the dorm. As a sophomore now she is able to work in the writing lab to help others and make $8.50 an hour. Nice that she doesn't have to work in fast food or that type of thing while going to college. 1/23/2014 Well I can see that I haven't up-dated this for a long time. My youngest daughter got married 8/6/11. Her and her husband graduated last May (2013) from Southern Utah University. No grandkids from them yet but I sure am enjoying the 3 grandkids that I have living here in St George. (Update: one daughter) My husband, Dan is welding here. Even though I'm old enough to retire he is 13 1/2 years younger so he's still got many years to work before he can retire. We will be married 35 years in May. Like I said before if you want to find me I'm on facebook. Where are all of the "kids" from pleasant Hill? The only one I have found on FB from the 8th grade graduating class of 1961 is Clark Curry. 5/6/2020 ~ .Wow, I just checked here. Such old news! I changed some, deleted some & left some. We have moved for hopefully the last time. We made $60K clear, on our house in Salt Lake and the same on the one in St George, after living in them each for just six years and doing a bit of work on them. We moved to the small town of Manti, UT in 2016. . We love it here! Beautiful mountains and the Manti Temple a block north of us. Best place I've ever lived! Dan and I celebrated our 35th anniversary this week. There's a few people I would like to find but it's hard because women's names change.
