Shirley's Story
Our Life
First of all I just wanted to say that I have to change something that I said about being grandparents. I wrote at the end of my story "that we were not grandparents yet, and we were too young" I am eating my words because "WE ARE GOING TO BE GRANDPARENTS FOR THE FIRST TIME IN FEBRUARY 2009." We are going to be the best grandparents and give him or her or both, the love that each child needs and also spoiled them rotten...
I have been happily married for 32 years, to my best friend in the whole world, Manuel. We met at a night club in Pico Rivera in November 1975, the name of the club then was The Press Club or International Club it was on the corner of Rosemead and Washington Blvd. I was a cocktail waitress (skinny and cute, then) and he was my long hair handsome bartender. It was love at first site. We started dating serious at the end of January 1976 and eight weeks later we were married. We are still very much in love, and we thank God everyday for each other.
My husband and myself worked for Duarte Unified School District. I worked for about 12 years until I retired in 2003 (not by choice) as Account Technician for Classified Payroll. ...Expand for more
My husband still works for DUSD.
We are both blessed with three wonderful children.
Our oldest son Christopher is 31 and is a Captain in the US Army Reserves now. In 2004 he served in Iraqi Freedom II, with the 1st Cavalry from Fort Hood Texas and Chris was awarded the Bronze Star for all his accomplishment in Iraq. Christopher is married to his childhood sweetheart Cheryl in 2006, and now they are preparing to move into their new home soon. Chris is going to Pepperdine University for his MBA. Cheryl is going to Cal State Fullerton for her BA.
Our youngest son Matthew is 28, still lives at home with us. Matthew graduated from LMU in 2003 as Electrical Eng. He has been working for DWP since graduation. Matthew is also preparing to go to USC for his MBA in the fall.
We also have a little girl, Melissa who is 18 years old. She has just graduated from high school and is preparing to go on to college in the fall. We are also preparing her to learn to drive.. PRAY FOR US. She is a WONDERFUL sister and daughter.
By the way we are not grandparents yet and we are way too young
