Shirley's Story
Life
I have been happily married for 33 years. I have two grown children and one beautiful grandchild. I have traveled and lived around the world. I have been a health care professional and nurse since I finished nursing school after attending Lincoln High. I live in Seattle, WA (since 1961) and spent 20 years as a nursing prof. at Seattle Pacific University. Have a BSN and MN from U. of WA. For last 13 years I have worked for WA State as a nurse consultant in the Aging and Adult Services Admin. of the Dept. of Social and Health Services. I do in-depth reviews of the care residents receive in nursing homes, am actually a NH regulator for both the federal and state governments, do Medicare/Medicaid fraud investigation, public complaints investigation concerning nursing homes, etc. Have been certified by ANCC as a clinical specialist in gerontological nursing for 10 years. nna, Austria, a civil engineer. Marriage to Hans has included living in Baghdad, Iraq for 1.5 years in 1978-79 (that was quite an experience!) while he was on a UN technical advisory team working with the Iraqi gov't on upgrading its civil aviation system. We left shortly before the Iraq-Iran war started. Never a dull moment with Hans! Have spent considerable time in Europe but not recently. Son Mike lives in Phoenix and we now own a condo there and plan to finally retire in Oct., 2002 and move to the Valley of the Sun. I am tired of living on an earthquake fault 80 mi. north of a semi-active volcano with rain, rain, rain.
Daughter Cathy is married to a marine officer (New Zealander by birth) and they have little 6-year-old Brianna. They are in VA, outside Wash. DC while Brett does additional training - we anticipate deployment to some place like Afghanistan after that, much to my dismay. Hello to high school and nursing school classmates of long ago!
