Sibone's Story

Life My life is blessed. Five beautiful and smart kids (yes, count 'em--five). I love to enjoy life. I've traveled around the world, enjoyed my dream vacations. My days are full. I'm back in school, working, tennis and of course, a mother. Each is on a "part-time" basis and that allows it all to work together. Working a retail job because the schedule just simply works w/ my school hours. My new major is psychology with the goal of counseling others. I am thrilled to be pursuing my vocation of helping others and understanding why we do the things we do. I have faith and peace that it will work out abundantly. My de-stressors are working with others, meditating and playing tennis. After two decades of a break from it, it's a wonderful experience as an adult--the friendships, leagues and competition. It's also a good transition from roller derby. ;) I'm fit and enjoying good health.I do some volunteer work w/ alcoholics and addicts--keeps me sane! I've dropped all my other volunteer activities. I'm grateful for the experiences, but I needed to let them go. I still enjoy planning events, hanging out with wonderful friends, craftin', dancing and traveling. Two years ago, I began attending Unity church, an amazing place of love and prayer and growth! I love the ideas of tolerance at UU Church, helping those in need and the environment, but Unity enriches my spiritual quest for more God in my life. My favorite accomplishments are finding God again, b/c who am I kidding? Living a sober life since November '07. Learning how to be single again and still responsible for my commitments. Making 4.0 rating in tennis. Achieving my goal weight, too! Making the Texas Rollergirls team in '06-07. Skating with Honky Tonk Heartbreakers, and with Austin Roller Moms before that. ARM was trained by the banked track gals on t.v. So yeah, Witch Baby and Cadillac trained me on how to fall! I love that my first published book, Tess and the Secret Elephant was a helpful one. I hope to add more to the list that I've written and illustrated. With their fathers, I'm also proud of co-parenting five wonderful kids. The children's accomplishments are not a reflection of me, but they sure do make me beam. My oldest is in college studying history and doing well. We text each other about our classes. My oldest son is a junior and maturing into an wonderful, insightful young man. My 8th grade girl is a young lady now, and incredibly compassionate and artistic. My 3rd grade son and 1st grade boy are scientifically minded and rough-n-tumble boys. Amazing to watch them learn about life. Life's such a wonder. Feel free to email me. It's been fun to catch up with high school friends. Blessings of health and happiness to you all. It was great seeing many of you at the reunion! Hugs and blessings, Sibo ----------------- School Ha! Can you say over-achiever? Back then...I was an avid learner, goody-two-shoes, teacher's pet w/ some, tennis jock, band geek, very religious, and yet highly irreverent. High school was also filled with tons of makeup work and absences--88 absences my senior year because of sudden onset of health ...Expand for more
problems. As a sophomore I helped create the attendance policies. Ironic, yes. As a senior, with the help of a few teachers and my indignant parents, fought to buck the rules and find a new solution that worked for my health. There was a push for me from a few teachers to basically get kicked out. And the VP calling me in. Ha. Nice try. Despite that, I still managed a full four years--the TMHS Hall of Fame, Magna Cum Laude, 1st chair Flute, 2nd in State for Tennis with sis Ness ("Late is Great!"), and tutoring other high school students as my first paid job. I also remember being a "taxi" for many of my friends. Mom had me driving early, b/c of her cancer and surgery. I was a speed demon, picking up friends before school and dropping them off after. I though high school was too easy, except for the AP classes, but thankfully I found mostly safe ways of staying busy. Being silly at football games, dances or just with my friends. I had a love for pranks that drove my friends nuts. My driving was crazy--nearly lost my license w/ my tickets and accidents. I embraced bucking the local trend of clothes and attitude, or so I thought. :) Back then, I was very closed about religion. Now my goal is tolerance and accepting people as they are. I didn't fall into one clique. My friends were in varied groups and spanned many grades. After my sophomore year, I only dated college guys. My wonderful, warm friends are still treasures I hold dear. Encouraging, talented teachers and parents helped shape my learning methods. As a parent, it boggles my mind how amazingly involved and supportive my parents were in such a hectic family schedule of tennis, band, NHS, awards ceremonies...you name it. I'm glad I'm done with it, but it was a interesting part of the ride. ------------ College A couple of community colleges, UT at Austin. As my family's needs changed, so did my interests. My study began in pre-med, switched to general. In my late 20's I went back to school to pursue a visual communications degree. I often worked full-time while attending school. Balancing that with a family, especially when divorced, was no small feat! I love learning and so being a student again for a new career is wonderfully stimulating. Workplace I love what I do. Any job I've taken, I commit myself to the fullest. When I'm ready for something new, I move on. Over the last two decades, I've taught tennis, tutored math/geometry/English, worked as a lab asst, administrator, Creative Director and taken part in a start-up business, Liquid-Concepts. Since my mid-20s, I've continuously worked free-lance as an artist/graphic designer. The range of my life experiences helps each of my endeavors. I've designed and illustrated nearly every form of media for Dell, UT of Austin, Stubb's Foodservice real estate companies and small businesses. My favorite achievements are charity works and also illustrating a children's book for survivors of sexual abuse. The author is wonderfully sweet, and the work was rewarding. While I take on a fair amount of charity projects needing graphic art and production, I enjoy getting paid for work that I love.
