Skip's Story
Hello world!
I pretty much stink at talking about myself.
I'm married again, to the most wonderful woman in the world and one badass nurse. She saved my life in a number of ways, not the least of which was in forcing me to deal with a cardiac condition I didn't even know I had :o)
A couple of years after high school, I moved to Boulder, Colorado for about 6 1/2 years with Connie, my high school sweetheart. We had a wonderful time out there :o) , but we eventually had to come back.
While out there, in 1986, we had Candace who graduated from MSU in 2008. Hard to believe that I'm that old. She hasn't given me grandkids yet - that would make me feel REAL old :o) but I'll certainly welcome that day when it comes.
I worked for a VW dealership, ran a garage for a while, and then a VW parts store. I also started my own business while out there and found out how working 80 hours a week kinda stinks.
We moved back to Orion in 1989 and I started engineering school, first at OCC, then on to LTU. During that time we had another wonderful child we named Charlotte who will graduate from LOHS in 2012..
I started working for TRW in 1997, spent 18 months laid off and wondering what the heck happene...Expand for more
d to the economy, and now I work at Ford, studying vehicle safety from crashes to biomechanics. I love the job, I hate the drive from Washington to Dearborn.
We divorced some years back and Connie still lives in Orion in the same house. I went to live in Rochester for a few years before moving to Ira, very close to the northern tip of Lake St Clair. Mary Ellen and I now call Washington (MI) home.
So - what else have I been up to? I still play music, mostly doing sit-in gigs now, but for a while that got me out with a touring band all over the Northern Michigan. What was so cool about that is that I'd play at night and during the day I got to be outside kayaking, skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, and taking pictures. I found a passion for lighthouses and ships, along with all the other wonderful things this state has to offer, and it offers a lot! Check out at the pictures at w w w DOT flickr DOT com SLASH Photos SLASH skipbarnes and that will give you a good idea of what life has been like for me for the last several years.
I still hit all my old spots with the kayak and can frequently be found out in the woods taking pictures in and around Orion, hope to see all of you out and about :o)
