David's Story
After high school, I went into the U.S. Navy. I attended Naval Nuclear Power School in Orlando, FL, then Basic Enlisted Submarine School in New London, CT. I was a crewmember aboard submarines USS Benjamin Franklin SSBN 640 A-Gang (Auxiliary Division) from '80-'85 and USS Michigan SSBN 727 A-Gang from '85-'87. Heart problems in '87 sent me to shore duty at Trident Refit Facility Bangor, Washington. I was selected for Chief Petty Officer in '91. I was then assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk CV 63 from '91-'93. During a deployment to the Persian Gulf, we dropped some bombs on Iraq. I took an early out in '93 with a golden handshake.
I got married in '94 to a lady from Portugal. I have a step-son, a step-daughter and we have a daughter together, Starla, who was born on my birthday. Starla became a RN and is in graduate school to become a NP. She got married in 2021 to a man who has the same birthday as we do.
My first grand-daughter was born on Jan. 1, 2004. Missed my birthday by one day. DARN. I now have a total of 5 grand-children.
