Brian's Story
Life
I was kicked out of William Paterson College in 1979 (Something about not attending class. Picky, picky) and went to work for Prudential, where I worked in information systems for 23 years. First as a computer operator; then applications programmer, systems analyst and systems programmer. I was "downsized" in Nov. 2002 and am now a consultant, looking for something more permanent (resume available upon request).
I was married in '94 and as part of the package I gained a step-daughter. She's a great student, so you can tell my genes aren't involved here. She's also a darn good good soccer player and an all around great kid (a teenager who actually folds laundry and vacuums the house without being asked!). We now live in Kinnelon, N.J.
I'm also an avocational archaeologist and have excavated throughout the northeast. I'm currently a staff member on a dig in Basking Ridge, where we're excavating a 6,000 year old Indian village.
I play softball and soccer and coach a U-17 girls soccer team (2006 NJ state champs!) and I enjoy bowling. My wife, step-daughter and I are avid skiers and we also enjoy backpacking, canoing, hiking, fishing, geocaching and anything involving the outdoors - except yardwork (anybody know a good landscaper?).
School
M...Expand for more
y years at PHS were spent working very hard at getting away with doing as little as possible.
I often wonder what I could have accomplished if I put that much effort into my studies.
College
Upon entering William Paterson I pledged Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE). Many of my friends to this day are people I met through my fraternity.
I got a little too involved in the fun side of fraternity life, to the detriment of my studies and was eventually advised to end my association with the school.
I plan to finish my degree...some day...
Workplace
Started working as a computer operator in Passaic General Hospital, then Columbus Hospital in Newark. Was hired as the as a computer operator at Prudential in '79 and rose through the ranks, becoming a programmer, systems analyst and systems programmer, with a focus on mainframes and mainframe networking. I was laid off in 2002, but a sizable severance package softened the blow. I really can't complain, as I was treated quite well.
I had a short consulting stint at Prudential, then was out of work for a year, before being hired by the Bearing Point consulting firm. Not being one for business travel (its a strain on my family), I'm still looking for a permanent position locally (resume available upon request).
