Sonia's Story
Life
I am divorced and have a set of twin 21 year old girls named Mariah and Ayana. I am currently employed with the Montclair, NJ Board of Education as a Paraprofessional. I also work part-time at my church as a secretary. I am a member of Union Baptist Church in Orange where I serve on the Board of Trustees. I also enjoy Adult Praise Dance classes and being a member of the Scholarship Committee.
School
I enjoyed my years at Orange High School. I made a lot of good friends, many of which I am still in touch with today. They are the best friends anyone could have. My favorite teacher was Mrs. Ruth Baskerville. She made learning fun and she spent a lot of her spare time working with us in the Performing Arts Club. so a wife and mother. I was a member of the National Honor Society, twirling squad and dance club. I loved attending the football and basketball games. I remember the line or should I say stampede to get a ticket to see Orange High play East Orange High in basketball. As a twirler I remember performing at my first night football game. The game was very exciting. Orange came from behind and won the game with only 32 seconds left in the game. One of my favorite events was "Freak Day". I dressed up crazy every year. Students there now do not have the school spirit that we had. I attended a "Class Night" event one year and it was nothing compared to ours. For us it was a big deal. Everyone attended and dressed up. The faculty was also in attendance. Not so any more. Hopefully they will re-gain the spirit we had and be able to enjoy their high school years.
