Sonia's Story
Life
Retired as a resource teacher from the Department of Education, State of Hawaii, after 35 years of service in 1995. I taught high school for 29 years and concluded my career as a Beginning Teacher Supervisor for 6 years before retiring. I have two daughters and two grandchildren; girl and a boy. Enjoy traveling and doting on my grandchildren.
I've been involved with a Japanese skin care company Noevir for 40 years. The company has rewarded me with many trips to Japan, Mexico, Canada, different parts of the U.S. as well as cruises to the Bahamas. Annual conventions are held at different parts of the U.S. In 2013, our national convention was held in New Orleans, Louisiana. I have enjoyed a bountiful life with a wonderful husband who was also an educator and administrator with the Department of Education for the State of Hawaii. He also retired in 1995. We traveled and enjoyed our retirement for 8 years before we became fulltime babysitters for our granddaughter and grandson. In updating my profile, I have now a 18 year old grandson and a 21 year old granddaughter. Both grandkids are from my two daughters and successful in their own careers. Unfortunately, none of my daughters became educators but my son-in-law is a teacher at Kame...Expand for more
hameha School. He teaches Hawaiian history on the Kapalama campus on Oahu. We are proud of my grandkids since they both attended Punahou School. They love being a Buff n Blue and gaining admission to the school which affords a diverse education. Grandson graduates this year 2023 and plays soccer. My granddaughter graduated in 2020, sadly with the Covid 19 pandemic so no graduation ceremony just a drive by and an improvised ceremony at Punahou. She’s now attending New York University and loves it. She had to be quarantined for 14 days in her dormitory before starting her journey at NYU. With all of this, she is adjusting well. She is now a junior and double major Journalism and kSocial and Cultural Analysis and a minor in Creative Writing. NYU is located right in Manhattan and accessible to the subways, shopping and museums. She loves the city and the cultural and diverse experience.
I always wanted to be a teacher. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, they were right!. My husband and I are finally traveling to Las Vegas. We are totally vaccinated with our third booster shot and finally going to our favorite restaurants. We are still vigilant and cautious in our daily activities. We are back to normalcy.
