Kathy's Story
Life
Update: 2015
I traded in my racing sailboat for a cruising version. A nice 38 footer that was found on Lake Michigan, clean and in excellent shape as a fresh water sailed vessel. I spent the summer of 2015 sailing on the Lake, trucked the boat home to Marina del Rey and have begun getting the boat very salty! I am having a ball enjoying the beautiful weather we have here. As soon as the boat was splashed in the Pacific, after commissioning it, I spent 9 days at Catalina snorkeling and enjoying the Island life in Emerald Bay. Friends that sailed over visited and we all played like kids. I love my time on the water.
2011
Whoo Hoo. I just have to add this to the top... (June 2011) I just sailed a 45 foot sailboat over to Hawaii with 3 others. It took 19 days (+ 3 to get it to the final destination), and it was an adventure and a half. Ask me for the blog url if you have an hour and want some good reading!
Sailing is my passion. I am racing sailboats every weekend. I owned and raced a Santana 20 for 32 years, and now I own a Martin 242. This class boat has 15 or more of the same kind of boat on the line to race 2 to 3 times a week in the summer time. One Design racing at it's best. Fun, fast, and many friends.
I really enjoy my time on the water, in the water, and by the water. The ocean is where I go when ever I have time. I love to photograph the beach at different times of the day, take pics of whales, dolphins, and the birds, boogie board, snorkel, and scuba.
I hold a 100 Ton US Coast Guard Captain's License. This means I can take people out on a boat as a captain for pay, not that I am a member of the Coast Guard. I don't use it that way, I teach others who are studying for their captain's license. With all of my sailing time, so many people called me "Captain Kathy" I figured I should be one! I have held my license for the last 6 years. (Change that, my license was in effect for my Hawaii delivery. I was navigator and more.)
It took me "30 years" to get my BA from CSULB. As this is where I discovered living in the dorms meant parties, sailing (and partying some more). I started in 1972 and graduated in 2001. I got into the swing of school again and continued on to Pepperdine for my Master of Art Degree.

r, for Web, print, video, and interactive experiences. Some of my clients are Los Angeles County Fire Museum, LA County Fire Department Forestry Division, UCLA School of Law, Los Angeles County Fire Department (I built their "new" Web site 5 years ago), LA County Lifeguards, various small business e-commerce sites, and now special online classes for Santa Monica College.
I received my Associate Faculty appointment at Santa Monica College. I have been on faculty for 6 years. I teach Web development, Multi-Media design, and a special class for acquired brain injury students.
I spent 30 years as a jewelry designer and manufacturer. My company had over 400 designs as well as many custom fine jewelry pieces.
I still make jewelry for one client who is located in Key West and Puerto Rico, as well as friends.
I never married. I just really have been too busy having fun and working hard. I am happy, and still having fun and working hard. A sunburn is my greatest concern!
Oh, I still drive the same '65 Mustang around to car shows and for fun! It gets entered in the "personal car" class at the shows. In other words, it is not in off the show room floor condition After all, I drove it as my main wheels for 27 years before parking it, after it would only go in reverse.
It has '68 high back bucket seats, custom dash dials, and custom wheels. The original 289 was rebuilt into a custom 289 with a full race Isky cam, then it had a 306, because I blew up the 289, and now a nice rebuilt stock 289. (See, only the body is original!)
The car had easily 5 coats of paint over the years. It went in for "rehab" and had all the paint removed, the new engine put in, new chrome, etc. Now, it goes in forward and everything. I put on the "oldies"music when I drive it, and many memories come back when cruising down the street.
Music was, and is big, in my life. I started playing the guitar at Fleming Jr.H. I am still playing. I have been in and out of a few bands. I can't sing one note, but I love to play. And, of course listen. I have a monster MP3 and CD collection. Over 23,000 songs, and counting. They just don't make iPods big enough for my collection!
I have many fond memories of Narbonne friends. I hope you all are well and happy also.
