Stacey's Story

THEN Wow... the 1980's... seems like yesterday doesn't it? Everything was bigger, and everyone wanted more, more, more (per Billy Idol). More was better wasn't it?... or at least we thought at the time! It was the year to see "Raider's of the Lost Ark" and "Porky's"; the year we sang along to "Jessie's Girl" by Rick Springfield and "Our Lips Are Sealed" by The Go Go's. Shoulder pads were a must for both sexes (yeah, admit it we ALL did it). "The more accessories the better" seemed to be the motto to go along with our leg warmers and spandex. And hair; well, again BIG, BIGGER, GI-NORMOUS (as my kids would say)! THE IN-BETWEEN YEARS I left sunny California in 1980 to graduate back in South Carolina where I had originally started. I will admit that I didn't leave the west coast happily. After a brief culture shock going from seeing my fellow California students decked out in all the punk rock fashion and the guys in their surfer attire, I was quickly introduced to penny loafers with knee high argyle socks worn with khaki skirts. All you SC girls know what I'm talking about! Anyway, it didn't take that long to get back into the flow of being southern again since I never really lost the accent to begin with. So, I made it through all the angst (meaning boy friends) of high school and went on to graduate from Appalachian State University with a degree in Advertising and Marketing. I married Mike Massengale, Riverside High School graduate of 1980, in June 1986. Although we were at Riverside together, we didn't meet until college. und in so much snow in Boone, North Carolina. Mike and I moved to Myrtle Beach shortly after we were married, but we eventually relocated back to the Upstate of SC. I have been a freelance Creative Director since 1995 after closing The Visual Marketing Group, a boutique advertising agency. There were two small reasons for closing the agency... Cameron and Chandler, my twin (boy and girls) who made their debut in 1995. It didn't take long for me to decide that two at a time were plenty. I also realized that I wasn't a stay-at-home soccer mom and that I could only watch so much Barney before seriously considering pharmaceuticals. (Don't get me wrong. I have plenty of good friends who stay at home with their kids, and I greatly admire you and place you on a pedestal!) So, instead of turning into a crazy woman, I opened Mass Appeal, which is still my freelance creative business, and work out of my home. In 2006 I launched Connexxions, Inc., Suburban Myths and CockTALES with two friends, which is a new product company with several lines of greeting cards, stationary products, cups, gifts and games. Our products are now in national retailers and mom-and-pop stores across the country. I hope that you all come across them at some point and let me know. TODAY Anyway, that's about it. Two 13 year old kids. One husband of 22 years that I still put up with, but who often tempts me to pull out the chloroform hankie and use it on him. One dog, a Yorkie named Oliver. A new business that has so far been a success. Great old friends and great new ones. So far, so good... and no more BIG HAIR or shoulder pads. At least not this year! 12-12-08
