Stacey's Story
May 2016:
After graduation from Emporia State University in 1977 with double bachelor degrees in theatre and education, I worked for Trans World Airlines as a flight attendant for 14 years, living in Chicago, New Orleans and finally St. Louis. Never thinking I would actually stop flying, I took a retirement package from TWA when I was pregnant with our daughter, now a UMKC graduate student. I became involved in gun violence prevention (GVP) after she appeared as a 6 year old on the Rosie O' Donnell show in 2000 and soon after began lobbying the MO State Legislature.
I relied heavily on 7th grade social studies and ended up working closely with...Expand for more
then Gov. Bob Holden. That led to working for the John Kerry for President Campaign in 2004 as the MO Women's Vote Director and then founding/directing several statewide women's PACs. I am now a State Representative from St. Louis, first elected in 2009, going into my 8th year in the MO State Capitol and focus on women's reproductive justice, voters rights & equality rights along with my GVP work, both in Missouri and nationwide.
My husband Burt (an attorney & adjunct WU professor) & I just celebrated 25 years of marriage and live near Washington University in St. Louis. Our family includes 2 stepsons and 4 grandchildren under the age of 8.
