Stacy's Story

Recently I married to a man I met on the internet (it really works!) and gained one son who lives with us, and three grown children. My only daughter is in her Senior year of high school and plans to attend college next year. We purchased a house in the mountains of Southern California and live at about 6200 feet and get snow....It is beautiful here and I leave the small community I live in (3000 people) as little as possible unless it is for a road trip! My career hasn't changed much. I work for Verizon Business as a Project Manager (18 years in 2008) and this last spring I obtained my PMP certification (no easy feat) on my first try! I work from home in a nice new office we built behind our garage. I hope to retire in the next 10 years. The last 5 years of my life have been intense for sure...Divorced my High School boyfriend after almost 18 years together, moved after 18 years in the same house, remarried to a wonderful man and merged two stuffed houses into one. In 2003 my father passed away on Christmas day of a heart attack and about one year later my Mom found out she had a very aggressive form of breast cancer. After 1 1/2 years of fighting the disease, she is close to completing her reconstruction with one more surgery...Expand for more
to go. It has been a long haul and we are lucky to still have her...It seems crazy to be having to deal with teen-agers and ailing parents at the same time, but I guess it is part of the 40 something phase? For fun, my husband and I like to yard sale, take road trips and go hunting for antiques. Our house is filled with wonderful treasures, mostly related to California history and trains. My husband works for a public utility also and also writes a History column for a large newpaper. He is close to publishing a series of three books. My husband is in great shape and hiked up Mt. Ranier and Mt. Whitney this last year....I would love someday to be able to keep up with him! I think I am having a mid-life crises of sorts because I dyed my hair dark brown (natural blonde). It was a real shock, but I like it. I am just starting to get new friends and interests of my own again. The last 5 years I have not focused on myself much and my Mom has required much more help. It is amazing when you divorce how you find out who your real friends are...and what you are made of. I am happy for the first time in a long time. I appreciate more and don't take so much for granted...like time, life, and a job. I have much to be greatfull for!
