Stacy's Story
After high school I hitch hiked around Europe with Craig Vaughn.(who by the way, married classmate Patrice Wiley just a few years ago) I stayed 6 months and became a mother's helper in Zurich, Switzerland for a family with 3 sons. When I returned home I took some courses at El Camino, but the travel bug called me once again. I moved to Honolulu and for the next 18 years I worked for the travel industry, leading tours around the outer islands.(My dad called it being a vagabond). The day John Lennon was killed, the young girl working next to me could see I was upset and asked "Who is John Lennon?" ACK! I did triathlons and marathons and enjoyed the single life. In 1989 I moved back to California and was hired by United Airlines, first in reservations, then customer service at the San Francisco Airport, where I remained for 18 years.(As a gate agent, on 9/11, I had been scheduled to meet inbound UAL # 93. g me for 2 days in the city with no electricity and fires all over, since my main way home was on the Bay Bridge which had collapsed. At 42 I finally settled down and got married. Got busy and had our son the following year (my ticking clock had almost tocked out). Mark is now 18, attends Clemson University and is the apple of my eye. I live now in Anderson, South Carolina, where life is very relaxed and much cheaper. I lost my older brother, Brian (class of 66) to melanoma at age 54. All that sunning in Manhattan Beach and his daily running took its toll. To think we were using cocoa butter on the beach and tanning for hours! In 2007 I retired from United with a back injury and can no longer do the active lifestyle and sports I once loved. I have made all the reunions except for the 15th, including the 2 all class reunions at MCHS. Do I have any regrets in life? I wished I had finished my education, but at the time in 1970 all I wanted to do was travel and live in Hawaii. And who knows, someday I may return to college. I treasure the friendships from Costa and still keep in close contact with many. Lost my wonderful mom on 9/24/13
