Stan's Story

Life after High School in Springfield, Oregon included going into the U.S. Air Force for 7 1/2 years and being stationed in Texas, Japan, and Maryland. After my military service, I went to the University of Arizona where I graduated With Distinction and finished all the course work for a Masters of Arts in Management degree from the University of Phoenix. I ran a community based volunteer organization known as Alternatives to Incarceration in Tucson prior to starting a career in Correctional Administration. I have subsequently retired from the State of Arizona Department of Corrections after 25 plus years working as a Prison Warden(all custody levels and types of adult male and female prisoners) and as the Assistant Director for Administrative Services(budget, payroll, purchasing, contracts, construction, maintenance, food service, security, communications, and information technology). I was home doing honey do's for 20 days and was going Stir Crazy (Yes, I worked at the Florence, Arizona prison where that movie was filmed)so my wife convinced me to find another job to keep me busy. Actually, I think she knew that since she was retiring herself that it would be in our best interest if only one of us was home 24/7/365. So, based upon her sage advice, I took another State of Arizona job but in another retirement plan working on the grounds of the State Hospital. I was the Chief of Security and was responsible for the security of the Hospital in all three major components of the Hospital including those patients with Civil commitments, patients with Forensic commitments as well as those sexually violent persons committed to the Hospital following the completion of their prison sentences. he adult and juvenile patients at the State Hospital are significantly mentally ill and are, therefore, an extreme danger to themselves and/or others so this occupation ended up being as challenging if not more than my first career in Corrections. I recently retired for the second time(February 2010)after purchasing all of my military time and other governmental service time from the City of Tucson and Southern Oregon College (yes, I am a true double dipper). Keeping true to my wifes earlier sage adice I have started a private consulting business called C-Cure Consulting that specializes in solving security issues for governmental organizations including jails/prisons/hospitals/ and homeland security. I also stay active by serving as an advisor to the editorial board for a national publication, stay involved in several professional organizations and am the Communications Coordinator for the national association of the Bates surname. Even though I have several interests, I can pursue them regardless of where I am located at any point in time. My lap top, cell phone, and an understanding wife allow me to follow those activities whether we are in Arizona during the winter or the Oregon coast in the summer. When I get some spare time I still enjoy good ole rock and roll music, doing family research, seeing action and comedy movies as well as watching the University of Arizona Wildcats basketball and football games. I am also an avid fan of the Arizona Diamondbacks and was a season ticket holder for their first 11 years. I would love to hear from old High School/Air Force/College/and work friends in order to catch up on the latest things happening in your lives! Stay Happy, Active and Healthy!!!!!
