Stan's Story

Life Life has been interesting. I spent over 10 years in the media as a morning radio air personality and as a TV sports anchor and producer. I even have dabbled in writing working as a sports editor and writer for a European television magazine geared to American television, and have just completed a novel for young adults that I am trying to find a publisher to fall in love with. My real calling is education. I started working in classrooms after I married in 1978, and for more than a decade had been working for children's science museums in both designing and delivering programming. This led to my current career as a middle school science teacher in Tampa, FL. I have 3 daughters, one works in PR in New York City, one is an off-Broadway director in NYC, and the third is in grad school in museum studies. School Its funny. While at Holy Name I felt I could do no wrong, but by the end of senior year I was angry, hated the school and just wanted to leave. Great regrets include never being asked to a MORP and getting turned down 4 times to my senior prom (I would up going to a Phillies game with 3 other senior friends who were also rejected by their chosen partners). Still, it was the place I met my future wife, with whom I have shared the best 31 years and three terrific daughters with. But gosh it would be great to go back to my high school days and not be such a jerk.....Maybe then I would have had dates.... If I only knew how to date.... College There were 2 college careers. The first was a mistake. I didn't know how to look for a college since no one in my family had ever gone to college. I didn't apply for scholarships (didn't know how or...Expand for more
why...I thought colleges gave you money if you were a good student) and dropped out after one semester transferring to a radio broadcating school in DeeCee. Finally, in 2003, decided to go back to school full-time and earn my teaching certification, which I did in 2006. Workplace I have had over 50 jobs (including part time) in the 30 years since graduation....spent 74-78 in radio, on stations in Ocean City, MD and Hartford, CT. Moved to retail store management from 78-82, working for the original parent of American Eagle Outfitters. Joined military in 1982 with a guaranteed assignment for American Forces Radio and Television HQ in Frankfurt, Germany. Lived in Europe for 10 years covering sports across the continent for AFN TV, and spending 3 of those years as a TV sports anchor, and feature sports writer for AFN TV Guide. Returned to Reading in 1991, moving to Charlotte, NC (The greatest city on earth...I loved it there!) for six years where I made to move into science museum education. After a brief move to Boston for my wife's job, we returned to the south and Tampa, Florida where I remain in science education as a middle school science teacher. Military WOW! So many tales to tell! Spent my first three years in Frankfurt Germany as sports anchor/producer for AFN HQ Europe, before moving to work for Colin Powell at V Corps video production, and finally to Heidelberg where I ran the media operation for all Morale, Welfare, and Recreation activities in Europe. Great life and I loved Europe, but with the collapse of the Berlin Wall in 89-90, we could see the massive cuts that were ahead and we decided to head back to the US and beat the rush...
