Stanley's Story
Life
In retrospect, I wish I had taken time to build closer relationships with some of you who were at Carson High School when I was there (1986 to 1989). However, I cannot change the past, so I'll proceed with what happened to me. Two months after I graduated, I came here to Tulsa, Oklahoma to attend Oral Roberts University. I started as a business major but switched to history after my first semester. ( I just could not see being able to finish college as a business major, and also, I totally love history.) My minor was French. I graduated from ORU on April 30, 1994. At that point, I was interested in teaching, but only at the junior college level or above. But I was also tired of being in school, so I decided to take some time off and work. In July, 1994, I was hired on at a Wal-Mart Supercenter currently being built, and the following month I started working there. A year later, I went back to ORU to get a master's degree in education, but that plan fell through. I had a meeting with my academic advisor in March 1996. He told me that because I had not passed two classes the previous semester, I would be on academic suspension the following school year. I tried to get back into ORU in the fall of 1997, but after being told that I would have to prove by doing research that I wa...Expand for more
s ready to come back, I changed my mind. I decided to stay in retail and worked at Wal-Mart until June 2004, when I tried to take a job as a carpet cleaning technician. That didn't work out, so I took a job as a telemarketer working on strictly commission. After a few months of hardly making any money, I took a job at a call center, where I managed to stay for five weeks. In November 2004, I took a job at another call center (telemarketing), and I was there until I was forced to quit in May of the following year. In late July, after not having steady work for over two months, I took a job at Target, making much less than I was at Wal-Mart. ( I had applied for work at my old Wal-Mart store no less than six times between July 2004 and July 2005, and I did not get a single phone call from them.) But I have good news for you, my reader. In January of this year, through what I believe to be a divine connection, I was able to get back on with Wal-Mart, and am now making almost where I was at when I left the company in June 2004. I give only God alone credit for that. As for relationships, I'm currently single (and in case you're wondering, never married.) I believe that true love is something that cannot be rushed. I will let you know, however, when I have met that special woman. Until I correspond with you again, God bless you.
