Stanwood's Story
Life
I have lived in many different states but now I live where I love living: San Diego, California. I have had some fun jobs: Ride Operator at Knotts Berrry Farm, Bus Driver/Tour Guide at the San Diego Zoo. However, since 1978 I have been an attorney. Since l990, I have been certified as a specialist in Family Law. I have never gotten married and have no children (practicing divorce law does not incline one toward marriage). My most life changing experience, by far, was becoming a born-again Christian. For fun, I like to take the camera and some friends and head off on road trips. I have been to about 80 ghost towns and some pretty spectacular national parks. I have photographed all of the Missions in California and some 40 castles in Britain. My immediate family is quite intact. We see each other a lot and talk even more. Life has been very good. If God was to call me home tomorrow, I could not complain about being cheated.
School
My father was in the Navy so we moved. I attended Imperial Beach Elementary, Rowland School, Valinda School, and Grandview School all in California. Then, we moved to the east coast and I attended Haverhill High School, graduating in 1966. Then I was a skinny geek but I managed to become the Editorial Editor of the school newspaper. a prioity. Yet I learned a lot and usually surprised my teachers with my scores on standardized tests. My teen years were not fun. Life became so much better later.
Workplace
Having finished my undergraduate and Master's program at Cal.State Fullerton, I went in the Navy and was commissioned as an Officer in June l972. I got out in June 1975 and began Law School at the University of San Diego, graduating in June l978. I took the California Bar Exam in July l978, passed it, and was sworn in in November l978. I opened up my own practice and originally did most any type of representation to pay the bills. (I also drove buses at the San Diego Zoo on weekends.) As I progressed professionally I was able to narrow my field of practice (and drop the weekend job). I concentrated more and more on Family Law until that is now the only field I practice in. I was certified as a Family Law Specialist by the State Bar of California in 1990 and have maintained my certification since then. I am active in the Certified Family Law Specialists of San Diego County and have been a speaker at many seminars on family law put on by that organization. Additionally, I was able to serve for four years as a Planning Commissioner for San Diego County and for twenty years on the Republican State Central Committee for California.
