Stella's Story

Life 35 years is a long time..i have lived in georgia, louisiana and now in nc. i have one son (33 now, married with a 4 year old daughter) and four stepsons (raised the twins, 29, since they were 12) and a total of 6 grandchildren from them with another on the way (i've often thought about explaining how it keeps happening). i worked as a private administrative assistant to the e. f. hutton financial services office manager until 1982 then moved to nc to be with my parents. total culture shock moving to "Mayberry USA", but have adjusted over the years with a total change of lifestyle...but then, i needed to settle down after being a wild child for most of my 20's. i obtained my life/health insurance license and my property and casulaty insurance license and managed an independent office for 19 years. 4 years ago i made a career change (insurance became totally boring) and am now the operations manager of a commercial cleaning company. i have about 19 employees and 98% control over the business though it's not mine. i still wear my hair short and shades of blonde...i weigh considerably more than the 99 lb weight i maintained through graduation, but we won't go there. my most cherished accomplishment is my 16 years of marriage to my husband, dwain. he is my life. he is the father of the 4 boys that are my stepsons. they are all grown and two of them have done quite well for themselves. life...Expand for more
changes, environments change, people change...i am content, and for me, that speaks volumes. Life changes even more as the years pass…. My son is soon to be 52, his daughter i is 23 this month…I have a stepson that is nine months younger than my son, he’s a self-made millionaire by way of construction; my husband and I “escaped” to the NC cost for a few months, but returned to live with our big rig driving son in my husband’s homeplace (we’ve done a lot of remodeling on this house built in 1900); the youngest son is incarcerated; and the other son, twin to the one we live with, committed suicide in 2020….we have 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren…my parents are gone now as well as several other family members…my husband became disabled many years ago and I quit working to take care of him, my parents, and eventually my brother, though he is now back in FL…like everyone else, I’m staring at 72 and not sure how I managed to get this old so quickly…My best accomplishments in this life are my son and my 36 years with Dwain…I live my life for my family…On a personal note, I’m still waaay over the skinny girl I was in high school, no longer a blonde but spring short Auburn hair…still have blue eyes and a greater use of sarcasm than my high school years…My sense of humor has deepened and my reverence for this life is increasing by leaps and bounds…I am realizing the remaining years are but short
