Stella's Story

My profile picture is of me and my two sons taken Thanksgiving 2010, which just happened to be my birthday. To my right is my oldest, Tommy and to my left is John. They complete me. After graduation I attended 20th Century Business College in Mobile. Within a couple of months I was hired by Pope & Quint Real Estate & Insurance to work for Arthur B. Pope & E. L Quint and six real estate agents. Quite an undertaking for a 17 year old girl from Prichard, AL. After a year and a half, when my folks transferred to Houston, TX I went along with them and within one week was hired by Houston Chamber of Commerce to work for the Business Manager. During my 7 years there, the CofC was instrumental in bringing NASA Manned Spacecraft Center and The Astrodome to Houston. I felt honored then and now to be a part of "making that happen". My claim to fame was placing cowboy hats on the original 7 astronauts. When John was almost one year old, I went back to work--for the Purchasing Agent of Transwestern Pipeline Co. and eventually I went to work for the Executive Vice President of Occidental Chemical Company. In 1972 I took a position as Administrative Assistant to President of Mark Lee & Associates. I spent the final 20 years of my career with ML&A, eventually branching into Mark Lee Investments. The most important and most rewarding events in my life were the births of my two sons. They are more than my pride and joy; they are the Wind Beneath My Wings. Tommy and his wife gave me two delightful grandsons; Johnny and his wife, a grandson and his twin sister and later one other Grand daughter. I won't try to argue that they are all the brightest, most beautiful, smartest and kindest people in the world -- the facts are They Just Are! My late husband, Mike, and I owned and operated (along with 35 employees) our real estate development business. We were involved in all phases of real estate development--buying raw land, our own architectural department, const...Expand for more
ruction companies, leasing, marketing and management teams. In 1990 we retired to our 1500 acre ranch in Hamilton, Montana, moving our employees from Houston and our entire llama business and employees (Storm King Llamas) from Colorado. After he died, I sold out our prosperous llama business and part of the land, keeping a nice chunk with several houses and the Chapel for our family's use. Three years after his death I began traveling with Kay Arthur as her Assistant, which allows me to use my spiritual gifts and talents for the Glory of God. Through that ministry, I have had wonderful opportunities to travel nationally and internationally. When I was a little girl I wanted to be either a Cheerleader or a Sunday School Teacher. Interestingly, for most of my life I have been a Cheerleader for Jesus as I use my gift of Encouragement for Him. I have been a Bible teacher at Sunday School off-and-on for years, and have had the joy of leading and teaching Bible studies in my local church and my home. God's grace has overwhelmed me and given me unbelievable blessings in all areas. There have been deaths of loved ones, divorces, good/bad, challenges, grief and sorrow -- but, oh, how the blessings have been in abundance. A typical year is lived out in quarters: One-fourth of my year is spent in Montana, another at my condo in Pensacola, FL, a fourth with my Kiddos in the Houston, TX area and the other fourh traveling with Kay. The priorities of my life have been and continue to be serving Jesus Christ, my children and Grands, My Friends and trying to make wise choices which affect all these. I'm in a good season in my life. Life is Good and I am grateful. My desire is to Press On to the higher calling in Jesus Christ and to finish well this race which I am running. Stumbles, Falls, Getting off track for sure -- but continuing to get up, brush myself off and get back in the race. My prayer is that all my family and friends will do the same.

In 1960 Santa not only came through the chimney, but wore high heels, too!
