Stephanie's Story
Life- My parents married in '47 and came to MI from Bloomington (Mary Jane Lanham) and Normal (Richard 'Dick' Leach) IL in 1950. I joined those schools on classmates hoping to reconnect with anyone who knows them or has photos of either of them. Moved to Ann Arbor MI in 1950. Dixboro when I was born in 1952.
I married George Basar who graduated in '71 (Birmingham, Seaholm High) and came to EMU. He hired in at Ypsilanti Police Dept. in '75 and retired as Chief of Police in March 2006, started as Chief in Howell April 2006. We moved there when our house was done in Aug.
We have three sons, Chris- who married Kathy Kennedy in 1999 and. Scott- married 2003 to Michelle Lucas and Steven- graduated from EMU:Dec 2005 and went to Ft Lauderdale Oct 2007 and married to Tenille DaCosta in 2018. 8 grandkids.
George and I lived in Ypsi for 18 years and then built a home in Chelsea (l993) and then moved to Howell in '06 when he retired from YPD and hired in as Chief at HPD. Retirement from Howell April 2020.

became certified to teach yoga -certified through Yoga Alliance (2018) and completed the whole food plant based nutrition certification through Cornell (2019), Wellness Nutrition Certificate MSU (2020) and CMA Naturopathy diploma in 2021. I continue to design comprehensive nutritional plans as a Body Wise International Consultant (since 1996).
Still think of high school as one of my happiest memories. Our family moved to Ann Arbor (Pioneer) in second semester of 11th grade just until June and then moved to Clinton where I attended the first six weeks of senior year but drove back to YHS to graduate with my friends. I drove from Clinton to Ypsi every morning so that I could finish school with all you YHS classmates. Never late and never skipped! Still try to get us all together to catch up when I can. I am also on Facebook (Stephanie Leach Basar) and love to reconnect with YHS classmates. We have a group that meets the first Tuesday of every month (since 2009) now meeting at 4pm at Thompson & Co. in Depot Town-all YHS people who attended the old high school on Cross Street. Usually around 30 -40 people make it each month. Hope to see some of you there!
