Stephanie's Story

Life Um, let's see...this is sort of weird. OK. I am a Deputy District Attorney for Placer County and enjoy my job very much. I live in Roseville (outside of Sacramento) with my husband Doug, a police officer, and our 4 1/2 y/o little boy, Jacob Taylor who will be starting kindergarten in August (how did that happen?!). That's pretty much it; I have a very happy life! School Loved high school. Would do it all again in a heartbeat (as long as the end results were the same!) My best memories are of my best girlfriends and I just growing up together, going through the trials and tribulations of school years. I have many funny stories, most involving Stephanie, Michelle and Annie (we went to school together from grammar school through LCHS graduation) and I. Mostly those girls would try to corrupt me...teaching me how to "burn out" on Descanso Drive, for example. Yikes. I was grounded for months after that one. Double-dating for the prom; laying out in the sun with BABY OIL no less, to get a "better tan;" borrowing Annie's mom's car and taking it for a little spin before we were licensed to drive....So many memories, it's hard to say which ws the funniest, the happiest, the craziest. I honestly wouldn't change a single thing.... College I started college at Loyola Marymout University about 2 months after we graduated from LCHS. (That's the university where that college basketball player died on the b-ball court right before the play-offs) I loved college; the freedom of being away from home, but knowing that my friends and family weren't far from me. I was social chairman of my sorority, Delta Gamma. Lots of fun. Lots of parties. Worked the whole time I was in school. Graudated in 4 years. Still keep in touch with several of my sorority sisters (but not as often as I should). Anyway, after graduating from college, I ultimately started working in the judicial syste...Expand for more
m and it sort of stuck. I moved up north and ended up living in Napa and working for the Napa Courts (where I met my husband). After working as a judical assistant for several years, I started to go to law school at night. I went to McGeorge in Sacramento, so I had to commute 1 1/2 hours each way, four nights a week, for four long years, all the while still working in court in Napa. It was brutal. Graduation day couldn't come soon enough; I HATED law school. But I was lucky enough to pass the bar the first time and got hired like the next week by the Napa DA. What's interesting is that I graduated from law school 10 years and 2 days after I graduated from college. Workplace All through college, I waited tables. After graduating, I gave in to the pressure and took the first job offered to me--alcoholic beverage sales. Terrible job for me. I am not a sales person. Quit that after 3 months and became a paralegal at a law firm in LA for a year or so until, though that job, I met a court clerk for the LA Superior Court. I applied for a judicial assistant job there and got it, did that for a couple of years. I moved up to Northern California and ended up getting essentially the same job, judicial assistant, in Napa County. After doing that for several years there, I applied for law school. I attended the night program at McGeorge in Sacramento, making the brutal 1 1/2 hour commute, four nights a week, for 4 years. I kept my day job in court--that's why I went at night. I graduated from McGeorge in 1999, took the bar that summer, and after passing it (phew!) got hired by the Napa County DA's Office. My husband and I ended up moving with our little boy to Placer County after a year or so, so we could be closer to his family. I was lucky enough to be hired by Placer County's District Attorney where I remain a deputy. And I can tell you, I am not going anywhere. I love my job.
