Gail's Story

Upon graduation from Norborne High School in 1973, I attended several colleges to pursue my academic interests. I finally majored in Administration of Criminal Justice while attending Long Beach Community and State Colleges. After some time, I enrolled at the University of Phoenix in December 2003. On October 31, 2008, while working a full-time job, I completed my coursework and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Administration; however, with this profession and passion, I never got the chance to work formally. On June 15, 1974, I married Raymond Aaron Johnson, and we had two children: Krista and Kevin. Though our relationship turned out to be less permanent than either of us expected, we went on to remarry. In August 1982, I met an incredible young firefighter, Jerry Jones, at his brother's Labor Day Barbecue. It did not take long for love to blossom as Jerry's honorable character and my virtuous spirit drew us together. On July 20, 1984, Jerry and I married in Aurora, Colorado, and God blessed us as we blended our family. My husband saw my two children as his children and raised them alongside his daughter, Kristy, with whom he shared custody from a previous marriage. In February 1993, God blessed us with a handsome baby boy, who we named Jerry Jr. I always believed I am my husband's rib, that I am bone of his bones and flesh of his flesh, and together, we complement one another in marriage. Our marriage is a testament to love, respect, and resilience, and we are proud of the family we have built. All our children hav...Expand for more
e excelled in their education—Kevin has two years of college credits, Kristy earned her Ph.D., Krista earned her Master's, and Jerry, Jr has earned his Master's and is currently working on his Ph.D. Their academic pursuits have been a testament to their dedication and passion, mirroring the values we instilled in them. My career, too, was a testament to my dedication and passion. I worked for the Department of Defense (DoD) as a Health Care Policy Analyst under the Defense Health Agency. In this role, I was responsible for developing and executing highly specialized and complex programs and national benefits policies, such as TRICARE, directly impacting the Military Healthcare System. I guided contracted healthcare organizations and provided nationally recognized information for formulating healthcare policies. My expertise was recognized in various healthcare policies and implementations, and I was often called upon as an expert witness in malpractice cases on behalf of the federal government. I received numerous bonuses, promotions, and certificates for outstanding work performance. As a testament to my dedication and excellence, I received numerous quality step increases and within-grade increases under the DoD. I retired at the grade level of a GS-13 on April 30, 2016, after 34 years of service in the Federal Government. My husband, who is also retired from the U.S. Air Force and Federal Civil Services, and I are living a happy and blessed marriage of 39 years in our retirement home, and we are enjoying all 12 of our lovely grandchildren.
