Stephen's Story
Life
I retired from a job with the federal government in August 2003, after more than 31 years of service. Early in the same year that I retired, I began working for the school newspaper of a local junior college. I've been trying to establish a part-time career as a freelance writer, but, at this point, it's still a work in progress. A little over a year ago, I began volunteering at a nearby hospital, one day a week.
My wife, Barbara, is a registered nurse, employed by the Chicago Public Schools. She is currently assigned to one school on the northwest side of the city.

as a veterinary tech. or a vet. asst. Our middle daughter, 26, is currently taking pre-med classes at the University of Chicago. She plans to take the MCAT in spring 2006 and begin applying to med. schools shortly afterward. She lives in the Hyde Park area of Chicago. Our youngest daughter, 25, still lives at home. She is finishing up at the local junior college and plans to transfer to DePaul University (Chicago) in the spring. She's planning to major in communications.
