Stephen's Story

Stephen Murphy started his career in the financial industry in 1982. Working with a private firm, Edmundson Management Company, Steve had the opportunity to participate in various forms of real estate development, property management, and on site sales. Steve played key roles in the design of subdivisions, developing condominiums in Colorado, and performing various suitability studies for numerous real estate projects, including a merchandise mart in New Orleans. Upon moving to Denver in 1986, where Steve had been accepted to both Real Estate programs at American University in Washington, DC and the University of Denver (CO) he elected to forgo graduate studies to continue his financial career with Northwestern Mutual. Steve¿s successful career with Northwestern Mutual has included such milestones as qualifying for the Million Dollar Round Table. He has also earned the Industry¿s oldest professional designation of Chartered Life Underwriter, (CLU.)* Steve has had a varied insurance and financial services career, from individual and estate tax planning, to marketing and managing large group benefits and tax qualified retirement programs for groups from 5 to 34,000 participants. fit retirement and educational endowments programs for enrolled tribal members. Along with having provided health benefits programs, Steve co-founded Back Surgery Alternatives of Colorado, with Dr. Braden Reiter, in 1999. BSA brought a non-invasive procedure to Colorado which helped patients suffering from herniated and degenerated lumbar discs avoid surgery. With the above mentioned ¿Hands ON¿ experience, Steve gained first hand knowledge on the provider side of the US healthcare model. This insight has helped Steve be more effective in helping corporate clients work the our Country¿s health insurance ¿challenges.¿ Steve maintains an active private financial planning practice and currently serves as a consultant to clients in 18 States and three foreign countries. Steve earned his bachelor¿s degree as a legacy graduate from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (formerly USL.) He is an Eagle Scout, and former member of the Rotary Club of Denver, the Uptown (Denver) Optimist Club, and the Denver Active 20/30 Club. Steve and his wife Seileen have two daughters, Arainn, 7 and Kenna, 4. They reside with their cat, Boxter, in Alexandria, VA. *CLU is the most respected mark of insurance expertise.
