Steve's Story

A long journey. Near the finish line. But so much more yet to do. Feeling very lucky to be approaching 70 this summer (2023). Worked in grocery stores in 1970s. Besides taking university classes one or two classes a semester, my wife and I saw a lot of concerts in the 70s, mostly each summer at Pine Knob. Saw a lot of very popular groups over a 7 year span until we graduated college and moved to Texas. (You name them, we probably saw them). Married 1979 Eastern Mich Univ - BBA '81 1981-Got Finance/Accounting career off the ground (a little late but, hey, worked my way to the top nevertheless) Moved to Texas in 1981. Got acclimated, learned to like Texas BBQ, and Tex-Mex. Saw a lot of Astros games there, including a no-hitter to clinch the NL West in 1986. Saw Lou Whitaker hit a HR in the 1986 All Star Game. Univ of Houston, Clear Lake - MBA '88 Son #1 (Chris) born 1987, graduated Univ-Mich (Engineering), now lives in Vermont with his wife and daughter, currently he is a software engineer for Google (yes!…that Google). In 2010, he designed, developed, and programmed his own Android Application and sold it in the Android Apps market. Son #2 (Tim) born 1991, went to Auburn University and currently lives in Boston, and is a software developer for Amazon (Yes!…that Amazon). Both sons are doing very well. Found localized skin cancer in 2011. Beat it and removed it. So far, clean with no new detections. (Big yeah!). Career in Accounting, working for hospitals until attaining CFO level positions for a couple hospitals. Retired in 2018, after doing Consulting and interim CFO contracts for various hospitals around the...Expand for more
country for the last 10 years before retirement. Those contracts gave me opportunities to work in communities in Illinois, Texas, Arkansas, Alabama, Iowa, Oregon, Philadelphia Pa, and North Dakota. I saw a lot of the country, and a lot of major league and minor league baseball games on my open weekends while there…and even a few college football games in those areas. As a result I have seen 49 of the 50 states. Still married...44 years (and counting) to my best friend in the world, and a real sweetheart, my one and only wife from the beginning, Karen from FHS class '74. Latest hobby-Learning piano and keyboards. Other new Hobby...Board Gaming. We have been playing board games as a hobby since 2011, attending the summer national gaming conventions of GenCon and Origins Game Fair Conventions every summer. It started with playing Settlers of Catan in 2009, and have been having a lot of fun with this, playing games with people from all over the country, making lots of friends, and having a great (and clean) fun. Bought a Condo in Daytona Beach on the oceanfront that we rent out over the summer and live there in the last 3 months of the year. My two sports passions are college football and Baseball. Now living a long ways from major cities, I see less MLB games and now spend time seeing Spring Training games in Florida and Arizona. I have seen the Tigers in Lakeland several times…almost every year since retirement. We have discovered cruising, we went to Alaska in 2011, and now cruise at least once a year (sometimes more) in the Caribbean. In our retirement, we are averaging 2-3 cruises a year,.
