Stephen's Story

Life I was born in Washington D.C. in 1952 and raised in Silver Spring, MD.. I lived on University Blvd. across from Wheaton Plaza until 1958, then Georgia Avenue next to Hughes Methodist Church in Wheaton until 1964, then on Crestmoor Drive in Four Corners (my dad died in Feb 1965), then on Meadowwood Drive from 1966 through 1971 with my mom, stepdad (Dr. Steven C. King) and his two children (Gordon & Nancy King). I joined the United States Air Force in December 1971 and served until May 1976. Basic training and schooling was in Texas. I was stationed in North Dakota, Alaska and California. I'm currently living in South Fort Myers, FL. in my own 3 bedroom single family home. I'm single, have no children and have never been married. From 2004 to 2006 I was a Florida Flame basketball fan at Germain Arena in Estero Florida. The Flame were members of the NBA Development League. It was a lot of fun and I sometimes got to run the game camera and I sometimes got to dress up as the mascot when the original mascot was let go. (Update 7/12/09) The Flame left our area in 2006. My favorite television shows are Shark Tank, Holmes on Homes, Holmes Inspection, Holmes Makes It Right, This Old House, Ask This Old House, Rehab Addict, Hometime, How It's Made, Overhaulin', Graveyard Carz, West Coast Customs, Back Road Gold, Bar Rescue, Restaurant Impossible, Restaurant Stakeout, Mystery Diners, Modern Marvels, Big Brother, The Virginian, The Rebel, Wanted: Dead or Alive, The Outer Limits, The Rockford Files, It Takes a Thief, Blue Bloods, The Big Bang Theory, Arrow, Flash, Person of Interest, NCIS, CSI, CSI New York and "Yes" The Bachelor & Bachelorette. My favorite movies are Man of Steel, Thief, Ironman, Thor, Transformers and Star Trek #1 & #2. I am a big NFL fan. The Teams I Like are Ravens, Redskins, Green Bay, Dolphins, Seahawks, Patriots and Chiefs. My church is Gulf Coast Church of Christ... (Update 10/11/2023): I am now partially retired. I work for Charlie's Irrigation, Inc. only two day a week. I decided to start collecting my Social Security at age 70. Most of my time is taken up keeping up the house, which I thoroughly enjoy. I also enjoy visiting with my sister in Cape Coral and my brother in Lake Suzy. School At St. Johns I went from K to 4th grade. I remember that I was the only one who could write in the 1st grade. I also remember one kid (boy) (1st grade) that was exceptional and his mother would dress him up in a suit. I also...Expand for more
remember running and being chased by a nun. The church was built when I was in the second grade. I broke my finger in the 6th grade rolling down a hill in a steel barrel at Pinecrest. I wrote two stories for the 6th grade halloween publication. There was one kid (boy) who played the drums really well. Workplace Since I moved to Florida in August of 1982 I worked for Kelly Services on several assignments until I took a permanent job with Tri City Pool Service as the Administrative Assistant for the Service Department for 5 years. I then worked for Youngquist Brothers as the Accounts Receivable Manager and Administrative Assistant for the Irrigation Installations and Service Departments for 10 years. I then moved onto Integrity Outdoor Services where I was the Installations and Service Department Manager and Accounts Receivable Manager. I then worked for At The Wheel Driving School where I answered the phone and signed people up for driving lessons and also classes for speeding tickets, ect. and first time driving certificates. I used to work for Sweetbay Supermarkets in the Seafood Department from 2/19/2005 to 2/20/2009. This store is only 1/2 a mile from my house and is now a Winn Dixie. I now work at Charlies Irrigation, Inc. as of November 10th, 2011 running the office. Military I joined the US Air Force in December 1971 and served until May 1976 as a plumber. I was first stationed at Minot Air Force base. I unfroze many pipes under mobile homes. I changed out many kitchen faucets, garbage disposers and unplugged many drains. I bought a 1971 purple "Road Runner" and had a blast with that car. I sold it about 8 months later and did not have another car again until I left the militaty in 1976. I then put in for a "worldwide" assignment and got orders to go to the Allution Islands but that was changed to Tatalina AFS north of Fairbanks where I served 1 year. We ate four meals a day and played basketball. The mechanics rebuilt a jeep and we cruised from one end of the river to the only small town (McGrath) near us. There is only about a 10 mile stretch of road from the river to the town. The station was about 1 mile from the river. The only way to get here was by plane or boat so everything was brought to us this way. A ship would come once a year but the planes would fly in about once a week, weather permitting. I finished my tour of duty at Beale AFB in California where the SR-71 was stationed. I enjoyed Beale very much.
