Stephen's Story

Hi Ruskin guys and girls and particularly the Class of '61. After leaving Ruskin I studied Electrical Engineering at the "Missouri School of Mines" at Rolla Missouri. It's called the Missouri University of Science and technology these days. I was graduated in '66 with a BSEE. I went to work for Westinghouse Electric Company out of St. Louis specializing in heavy industrial automation and control. Siemens Energy and Automation's acquired my division of Westinghouse in 1998. I worked for Siemens until retiring in June of 2009 with 43 total years in the industry. I've designed and commissioned Hot and Cold Steel Rolling Mill Control Systems for industry here in the USA and for customers in quite a number of places through out the world. I've done with quite a bit of s work in many other areas of heavy and light industry as well. After about a year and a half with Westinghouse (in 1968) I was drafted into the US-Army. It was the middle of the Vietnam War, but the Army never sent me out of the country. I did some very interesting research with the US Army Bio-Mechanical Research Institute in Silver Spring Maryland. I was directly attached to USAMRIID - United States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Disease in Frederick, MD. That's the institute that been in the news a lot over the years for its work with biological agents. The news is often negative but the reality is something most Americans would be proud of. I know I'm proud to have worked with this unit. I've been married to Millie Maberry Greer for over 50 years. We met while I was stationed in Washington DC. Millie is a Nurse Educator and was the director of the N...Expand for more
ursing Extension Program at Ft. Leonard Wood for Lincoln University out of Jefferson City for 20 years. Millie retired just after I did in August 2009. . We have 3 adult children, all girls. Stacie Hatfield is finishing her dissertation in medical anthropology. She lives with her husband in Rolla, MO. Stacie and Aaron have two adult children. Her son is studying Electrical Engineering at my Alma Mater the Missouri University of Science and Technology; he's doing very well. Stacie's daughter lives in Oklahoma and is expecting a little girl in March 2020. My middle daughter is Dr. Becky Greer a Board certified Veterinary Criticalist working in St. Louis. Becky and her husband Nick have two girls.. Dr. Suzanne Phillips holds the chair of Biology and Earth Sciences at Loma Linda University in California. . Suzie and David have a boy and girl. Millie and I live in East Central Missouri in the town of Sullivan. Sullivan is about 50 miles SW of St. Louis and about 40 miles NE of Rolla on I44 (Old Route 66). We have a 10 acre spread with the usual collection of dogs, horses, cats and wild critters. Millie and I have traveled all over the world with my work for both Siemens and Westinghouse. We've lived several years in France and Belgium, Taiwan, India and Turkey, with shorter stays in a dozen or so other great places. We've had one great life. Since retiring in 2009 we continue to travel every chance we get with a lot of cruising but with travel around the USA, Mexico, and Canada as well. We're deeply involved in the work of the Seventh-day Adventist Church here in Sullivan. Check out my "Profile" on Facebook and become my friend.
