Stephen's Story
Life
Greetings. Very nice to have found all of you and to have seen and talked with some of you again.
I retired in October 2002 after 35 years as a bureaucrat with the New York City Human Resources Administration. (The thing that used to be called the "Welfare Department.") At retirement I had been three times promoted, finally reaching the level they called "Supervisor III" - as far as one goes within unionized, Civil Service levels. The career had its adventures: for thirteen years I defended the welfare system's errors in State hearings requested by clients. In the last few years I supervised the office that provides home care under the Medicaid program for much of South Brooklyn.
I got a Ph.D. in History in 1980 but have not really used it professionally.
I have been married 14 years to a very nice lady, Joanie, who is lovely, cheerful, athletic, animated, and brilliant. Having lots of fun. (She travels. I do not.)

nd Fire Island National Seashore except for a week in July which is spent in Lenox, Massachusetts, swimming in Laurel Lake.
Whenever possible, I seek out esoteric music and related arts - the stranger the better. Standard classical also. Nothing very mainstream - I don't like popular culture except for "Star Trek."

Workplace
Retired in October 2002 from the New York City Human Resources Administration where I had served for 35 years. My last position there was as a Supervisor III (Senior or Administrative Supervisor) in the Home Care office of the Medicaid program which covers much of South Brooklyn. Prior to that, as a Supervisor II, I spent 13 years representing the Public Assistance section of the agency, defending its actions in State hearings requested by clients who were contesting those actions. In many ways, this was a very interesting career.
