Steve 's Story

After 6 years of delivery S.F. Chronicle every morning. The Oakland Tribune afternoons and weekends mornings. I had enough money 2 get a 62 Chevy Truck Long Bed with A 235 and 3 on the tree. I got it painted Sun View Blue. I supported it by working at The End of Calaroga Av. Farrell Ice Cream Parlour in The Southland Mall 94545. 30 Hours A week 2.75/Hour. About $50.00 A Week. Take Home Pay. Enough 4 those Days in H.S. in the Early '70s. The 1st trip was with Patti Lynch, Bob Long and myself were in the Front. Ridin in the WIND was Bob Barnhouse, Steve Boren and John Balano, Over The Hills of Santa Cruz 2 the Days I spent my Youth. Reached New Brighton Beach. My Sixteen B-Day has just began taken in the Rays on such a Beautful Day. Easter Vacation, Spring Break having alot of FUN under the SUN. Body Surfing lots of goofing around. Then it came time 2 go thru the Cave, Cross The San Lorenzo River on 2 The Santa Cruz Boardwalk. Patti such be in SALES. She was our Wingirl any girl we picked out she would run up 2 them, B shaking her head up and down and pull her over 2 us. She did such A Good Job at this. It was great time riding all the Rides. The Mad Mouse, Bumber Cars and The Farris Wheel were U can C everything and every 1. Then The Tide was coming in and TIME 2 cross the River and go thru the Cave or walk A real long way around. 2 finish The Day on New Brighton Beach, Body Surfing with the Big Waves coming in and Listening 2 The Relaxing Sound of Pounding Surf coming in. Watching the Sunset go into The Pacific. Having Fun with every 1, On the Beach and Broadwalk all Day Long. A Perfect Sweet Sixteen B-Day all Day Long. 1st Trip in my Truck. The Best Memories Ever. It was a low snow fall John Balano and I got Up Real Early. Got 2 Big Shovels and headed up 2 The Southgate of Mt.Diablo 2300'. We filled my the Long Bed of my Truck with Clean Fresh Snow all the way past the top. Came back thru Crow Canyon Rd. I drove on 2 The Quad. The part of The Quad closest 2 Panama St. We Unloaded all the SNOW and started making snowballs about 40 of them. Then A period was over Every 1 that came out of the locker room got hit. HELLS BELLS Coach Bob Hector walked into 1 of mine Snowball Throws. He thought we were Throwing White Rocks. Then alot of students started coming 4 1st Period. There was No time 2 make Snowballs. So now we were just putting SNOW DOWN anybodies BACK. Like a Ice Pack Down your Back. 1971 A December 2 Remember. Snow Ball Mania and Good Morning Ice Pack down your Back. It was unbelieveable how many People you can put into A Car Trunk back then. 4 The All Night DRIVE IN Kung Fu Movies. Enter the Dragon, Fists of Fury and Oxagon. It was the most causal event every 1 was mingling around, having a good time. Then when the action started happening in the film. Everybody would stop and watch. Then the action stopped every 1 was talking about how COOL those movies were with all your friends. Great Memories. On Thursday Nights at 10pm Mayfair Market closes on Kay Av. and Calaroga near Jackson St. The T.P. Team would get Rolls and Rolls of T.P. Go Across Jackson St. 2 the House with Big Trees and lots of Big Branches on Linfield Lane. We became really good at throwing up T.P. making it stick on those Tree Branches, it is an Art. The hardest 1 was Patti Lynch's Palm Tree. The only thing 2 T.P. 1 time was trying 2 T.P. the Palm Tree. Then Patti's Mom slides open the window and Shouts {Please do not T.P. that Palm Tree}. I was so Scared that, I started 2 run and slipped on the Lawn and fell Face 1st. This make Patti's Mom Laugh. Then I got up and ran 2 my truck and took off. T.P.ing all over the 94545.
