Steve's Story

Steve W. Aguirre National Executive Committee 2022 - 2024 Past Department Commander American Legion Department of Arizona 2018 - 2019 NEC Aguirre is a 21-year member of the American Legion. He is also a Tucson, AZ, resident and a Paid Up for Life Member of the American Legion Green Valley Post 66, Green Valley, AZ. Commander Aguirre was elected to the high office of the National Executive Committee representing the Department of Arizona at the National Organization on June 26, 2022, at the 102nd Arizona Department Convention in Oro Valley, AZ. He also served as the Department Commander of the American Legion Department of Arizona from June 24, 2018, and June 23, 20219. As a Past Department Commander, he currently serves on several Department Committees. PDC Aguirre is a board me Deputy Director of Boys State, the National Security Committee Chairman, Committee on Committees, Convention & Fall Conference Committee, and Legislative Committee assigned to the Arizona Congressional District 6th U.S. Congressman. He is the Past Chairman of the Committee on Committees and Credentials Committees, Past Legionnaire Insurance Trust Director, and Past Arizona Legion College Facilitator. Commander Aguirre has served as a Post Commander for three years, Post Adjutant for two years, and has also served as the American Legion Riders Chapter President for four years while also serving as the Post Commander and Adjutant. Commander Aguirre's theme has been "Strength Through Membership." s such as the DAV, VFW, VVA, BPO Elks Board, and an Honorary Life Membership in the Marine Corps League. Commander Aguirre has served as District Commander and American Legion Rider Director, Department Vice Commander, and Department Membership Director. He is also a seated executive board member of the Southern Arizona Justice for Veterans Court and a past member on the Tucson City Councils Veteran Affairs Committee. Aguirre's Legion membership eligibility is through his honorable Vietnam-era active-duty service in the U.S. Army (February 1967 - January 1970). Commander Aguirre's tour of duty included 22 months overseas in ASCOM, Korea, assigned to the 377th Air Ambulance Company as a mechanic and crew chief on UH1 Bell (Huey) Helicopters'. The 377th Air Ambulance Company serviced the entire country and supported the 121 Medical Hospital, the largest medical facility in Korea. Upon his discharge, Aguirre began serving the Tucson community as a Law Enforcement Officer and Immigration Officer from 1973 through 1982 with Municipalities, County, and Federal agencies. He then worked in the Security and Private Investigation Industries from 1984 through 1998. While employed, he returned to school and received two Associate of Arts Degrees in Computer-Aided Drafting & Liberal Arts from Pima Community College in Tucson, Az. In 1999 Aguirre began his third and final career working in the Awards and Recognition industry and subsequently retired after nineteen years in 2018. He is currently attending the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ, seeking a Bachelor of Applied Science degree, majoring in Organizational Leadership and Commerce.
