After our Junior year in 1966, I joined the U.S. Air Force June 16th. Basic Training was at Lackland A.F.B. in Texas. Following Basic, I was chosen for Jet Aircraft Maintenance Tech. School at Sheppard A.F.B. in Wichita Falls, Texas. Upon completion of training, I was stationed at McDill A.F.B. in Tampa, with the 46th T.A.C. Fighter Squadron - 15th T.A.C. Fighter Wing, as an F-4C Phantom " Crew Chief " for three years. In March of 1969, I received orders of transfer to Eglin A.F.B. to form up with the first F4-E Phantom outfit to go to Vietnam, the 4th T.A.C. Fighter Squadron. We arrived at Danang A.B., Vietnam April 12,1969, and became part of the 366th T.A.C. Fighter Wing, known as " The Gunfighters ". This is when I was honored to have been my Squadron Commander's, Lt.
