Steve's Story
I joined the Air Force in Nov65. After boot camp in San Antonio, Texas, I went to Biloxi, Mississippi for 44 weeks of electronics training. From there, I was stationed at Osceola Radar Station in Wisc where I maintained the ground radar computer used to watch for Russian missiles coming over the North Pole. My dad referred to it as "Osceola Rest Home". It was pretty cushy duty. Got an early out in 1969 and went to work for Control Data Corp in St. Paul working on super computers while attending U of Minn on an Electrical Engineering degree. In 1972, I moved to Houston, Texas with Control Data and then to Portland in 1976. After 21 years of designing, maintaining and teaching super computers with CDC, I retired to contemplate my life and travel t...Expand for more
he world. In 1992, I decided to go back to work and 1 week later I started with Intel in their processor division. 6 years later I transferred to the motherboard group where I spent 10 years designing motherboards for IBM, Compaq, Gateway and others. Turned 62 in Jan09 and retired Feb 2009. My wife, Yolanda, retired in 2007 after teaching high school Spanish for 30 years. She has 2 married children who both call me dad. We spend a lot of time with them and grandkids Skyler, Taylor, Silas and Ria.
I love to fish, hunt, travel, garden, camp and bird watching. Almost anything that takes me outside in the woods. I guess I still have a lot of Mr. Scott's Biology class in me and was very sad when I heard of his passing. A little of me died with him.
