Steve's Story
After High School,
I attended Southwest Baptist University for 4 years - earning a BA w/ majors in History and Psychology. (And that is where I first grew the beard I still wear to this day.) In 1980 I moved to New Orleans where I attended New Orleans Baptist Seminary, worked for the Salvation Army, and taught Systematic Theology and Camparative Religion at Union Seminary. In 1982 I moved to Louisville where I attended Southern Seminary, taught Adult Ed classes and worked with church camps throughout the state. I was married to Sara Perkins, worked in churches and as manager of a regional camp.
In 1987 we moved back to Springfield and I got into computers, as a PC Technician and Programmer, then as a Mainframe Programmer and Network Support Engineer. Taught at Lincoln Land Community College. Worked on a Masters in MIS (Management Information Systems) at UIS, but moved away before completing the thesis.
In 1991 we packed up and moved to the Soviet Union (Almaty, Kazakstan to be specific), were there when the USSR fell apart. I taught Management Information Systems in institutes attached to the Cabinet of Ministers and the Presi...Expand for more
dent's office. In 1993 we spent a few months in the UK (south of London), then returned to the US.
I was an independant consultant for a while, and went through a divorce.
In 1994 I married Elena Naryzhnaya. We have a son, Nikolai Edward Crumbaugh, born in Springfield, IL on the day before my birthday in 1995.
We moved to Peoria in 1997 and to the Chicago area in 2000, where we have lived since. I have worked as a Network Engineer, teacher, and Telephony Engineer since.
In Kentucky I was involved in community theater (played the Stage Manager in Our Town). I sang in community choruses where I have lived and was a Lead in a local Barbershop chorus and a few quartets in Arlington Heights, IL. I enjoy leatherwork, archery, canoeing, magic, and reading - none of which I do enough.
My son graduated from Wheeling High in2014, is an Eagle Scout, and is restoring a 1952 Chevy pickup (with help from me). He is in the Mechanical Engineering Program at Milwaukee School Of Engineering.
