Steve's Story
Life
After graduation I attended Oklahoma State for two years before changing my major for the third time and transferring to Oral Roberts University where I completed a pre-med degree in December 1982.
I was then married to my ORU sweetheart (Janna) on Christmas Eve '82. Have been happily married for 25 years now and have four children (ages 12-20).
I was selected for an Air Force Health Professions scholarship and graduated from the ORU School of Medicine in 1987 and completed my residency in family practice at Eglin AFB in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida. My first assignment was at Robins AFB, GA where I served for 2.5 years then was transferred to Hickam AFB, Hawaii which was incredible. What a glorious place! Had four job offers there when I separated from the AF but Janna wanted to come home to Tallahassee, FL her hometown. rsity [football and all other sports]. It's been both exciting and eye-opening to participate in big-time college football at the ground level [literally:)]. In addition, I have also served on the faculty of the Florida State University College of Medicine since it opened in 2000 and joined the faculty of their Sports Medicine undergraduate program in 2006 as well.
My family and I are all actively involved in a rapidly growing church and both lead and host weekly fellowship group meetings in our home. In addition, I have served on medical mission trips to both Nicaragua and most recently to the most remote area of Cameroon in West Africa. After departing, I spearheaded an effort to train two llocal villagers to become their "doctors" [I use this term loosely] as well as funding the construction of both a clinic and "hospital" [I use this term even more loosely:)] in the village of Asha deep in the heart of Noniland. I am hoping to return either in late 2007 or early 2008 to help these "doctors" become the best they can be.
