Steve's Story
After under achieving in NHS, the Navy ordered me to achieve. I spent two challenging years training to operate a Nuclear Submarine. So, I spent a year between San Diego and the Gulf on Tonkin on an aircraft carrier, then three years on a Nuclear Sub. Married and had the jewel of my life, a daughter. College, a degree in forestry and a failed marriage. I spent the next 20 years on the Northern Cal coast working in logging then aerial photography, surveying and another failed marriage. Now I'm really happily married living in Vancouver WA back in Forestry. I'm a guitar and banjo player, mostly bluegrass, old time music and kepin' things alive in the choir at Mass. I never lost my love of folk music. Between my wife, Sally and I, we have three kids and four grand daughters between 6 - 13. he most satisfaction are 1) Qualified Submariner, 2) I actually graduated from College 3) Ordained Deacon in the Catholic Church 4) became a licensed private pilot 5) finally got the marriage thing right and, of course, fathered and raised an incredible daughter.
I had few close relationships in HS, but the ones I had I remember fondly. We had a good class and most of you were respectful and courteous to me, deserved or not. Athletics kept me going and how I staid eligible is beyond me. I clearly remember coming "that" close to beating the Drillers. But the tie was almost as sweet. Our time was a time of change as I remember vividly our president's assignation and the mixed up world we entered. Change was brought to us and we made some of it ourselves. I often wonder how many of our member's names grace the black granite wall in WA DC. I was fortunate to serve but not fight.
I hope I hear from some of you, my old classmates.
