Steve's Story

College I got my BS in Aerospace Engineering from Penn State in 1981. I was also a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity with another BHS '77 grad, David Teplica. After graduating from Penn State I attended the University of LaVerne in Pomona, California and received my MBA in 1989. I've thought about getting a doctorate in history, which I have a real fascination for, but that'll be later in life if at all. Workplace My first "job" was pumping gas at Joe's Texaco near the high school. I also was a fledgling "tour guide" at Penn's Cave for a summer while in high school, (mostly I fed the trout and put bumper stickers on visiting cars and cleaned the bathroom, ugh) and also worked as a sales clerk at the Gee Bees department store at the Nittany Mall for a time. While in college I worked with another BHS '77 alum, Rod Corl, at the Centre Community Hospital (now called the Mount Nittany Medical Center) in the cafeteria. After graduating from Penn State I went to southern California and landed a job with Rockwell International on the Space Shuttle program as a thermal protection engineer. I even had a chance to go to Cape Kennedy and crawl inside the shuttle wing and stand on the launch platform, and watched it land at Edwards Air Force base. I also spent time on the space station program during the concept propoal phase. After leaving the Space Shuttle/Station program, I went to work for Northrop Corp. on the then, top ...Expand for more
secret B-2 Stealth Bomber program, both as a structural design engineer and in the program office. This was a very exciting time in my career and that's where I met my wife. By chance in the Northrop program office I met an ex-Boeing Commerical Airplane employee which launched me on my present career course. I now work for the Boeing Company as a Regional Marketing Director in the Southeast Asia region. I've worked for Boeing for nearly 20 years and have had the chance to travel to many places around the world which I never would've done without this job. Places such as; London, Paris, Munich, Athens, Brussels, Dublin, Tokyo, New Delhi, Seoul, Manila, Hong Kong and many others. I am thankful for the chance to see so many cultures and places of interest. I hope to continue traveling when I retire and visit those places I've not yet been to. I expect I'll retire from Boeing and my goal is to do that when I'm 55 years old (or after the kids graduate from college). Military I've never served in the military, though my dad is a Vietnam vet and retired as a Lt. Colonel in the Air Force. I actually applied to the Air Force Academy while still in high school but since my eyes were not 20/20 I was not accepted. I was also recruited by the Navy to be a flight officer but declined as I wanted to fly the aircraft, not sit in the back. I'm very patriotic however and support our troops whenever I can and proudly fly the U.S. flag often.
