Steve's Story
Any one who knew me well in school knows that I have always been into music, either playing or listening (or collecting - my biggest vice).
Snapshot: After high school, I worked for a year to save money for college. From 1970-1972, I attended Harper Jr. College and received an AA in Liberal Arts. I moved down to SIU with my best friend from Harper, Jay Gawron, and met my first wife, Maggie, in one of my first classes. We married in 1973. I graduated from SIU in 1974 with a BS in English Education. I came back to the Chicago area (Wheaton) and worked at Bell Labs for another year. (I had worked almost every summer at Bell Labs during college.) My first wife and I went back to Grad school in 1975 as Graduate Assistants, as English majors. In 1976, I decided I needed to find a full-time job and started my first career, as a technical writer. From...Expand for more
there, I changed software companies and was promoted a few times along the way. My first wife and I split in 1979, and I met my current wife, Jane, in 1981. I was a training director when the mainframe software industry dried up. While I was still a training director, a friend offered me a job at United Audio. I thought "this is my hobby and I'll try it for a while". Twelve years later, I moved back into training as an instructional designer. I now work for a company called TravelCLICK designing training programs, mostly web-based. I've been happily married to Jane for 25 years and have a 31-year-old stepson and a 19-year-old daughter. I now live in Carol Stream IL, about 20 minutes from Conant or Harper. I still plan to move away from the Chicago area someday, but Chicago is a great city. Jane and I have not found our ideal place to live yet.
