Steve's Story

Life After graduating from ELHS in 1963, I attended Ryerson for a few years but left without completing the program. I then went up to the N.W.T. for 4 years. I got married at the end of that time and attended the University of Calgary, earning a B.A. in political science. I worked as a sales rep for several years before returning to U. of C. to obtain my B.Ed. I worked in Fort McMurray, AB for 13 years as a teacher and 2 years as a high school administrator. I got divorced in 1999. About that time, I met a wonderful woman online. We became friends and, eventually, I moved to San Diego (Cardiff by the Sea, actually) to be with her. We were married in January, 2000 and I started all over again as a teacher. I recently became a software trainer at the district level in Santa Ana, California. This particular school district has 3,000 employees, so I expect to be busy! A new chapter has opened, career-wise. After a stint as a software trainer, I was asked to join another department (Pupil Support Services) with the title of Program Specialist. Essentially, I was to help out the folks in the department utilize the Student Information Sy...Expand for more
stem (the same software I supported as a trainer.) After several months in this department, the District moved me back to District Office in the Department of Research and Evaluation. My job remains the same, but with a slightly different focus. On a different note, my children are now in the United States as well. My daughter, Jennifer, married a young man about a year ago. She lives about 15 minutes away, and I get to see her quite often. My son married a sweet American gal a few years ago and now lives near Murrieta, CA (about an hour away from me).. In 2013, Sue and I moved from Cardiff-by-the-Sea to Laguna Woods, California. I continued to work in Santa Ana until my retirement in June of 2021. Sue was diagnosed with glioblastoma in 2021 and passed away in November of 2021. I felt blessed that, since I was working from home due to Covid, I was able to take care of Sue while still working.. In accordance with Sue's wishes, I invited about 20 relatives and close friends to sprinkle her ashes at sea on what would have been Sue's birthday in March of 2022. I feel lucky to have so many wonderful memories of our life to sustain me now.

So, it's about 40 minutes away from Sue's 10:00 pm meds and Lilly and I are chilling on the balcony. I have a scotch and she . . . well, she has me. We're just watching the zombies go by. They MUST be zombies; they wander
So I just took Lilly for her last walk of tbe day. While the wind had died down a bit, there was quite a bit of smoke in the air. I could even see smoke and minute particles of ash in my flashlight beam.
Thanks for all the birthday wishes, likes and loves, everyone! Since it is also TBT, I though I would post this tiny photo that my mother had given to Sue some years ago. It is only about an inch wide and is in the tiniest
Nana Sue and her new grandson Zealand. Guess who's over the moon?
Do you tbink that Nana is beside herself with joy?
Happy New Year, everyone!

Lilly and I enjoying an after-dinner cocktail on the balcony. We just watch the folks walking by in their masks. Sometimes, Lilly will "comment" on their behavior or attire. She's not particularly tolerant, but then again,

Waiting for Mommy to return. . . . Broke my heart!
My daughter Jennifer and her husband Martin, posted this picture today. It would appear that I’m about to become a grandfather. I’m so pleased . . . And Sue is just besides herself with joy!
So, on a warm day when nobody should be in the kitchen, my wife made me this PERFECT beef stew, because she loves me . . . or she's planning another trip to Unicorn Jewelers. 😄
I took this shot with my phone today from the walkway in front of our tent. It reminded me of a marina with hippos instead of boats. I think I'm going to miss their nightly serenades!

Jennifer and Martin and Chewy joined us for Passover Seder along with Carrie and Heather Hemmer. Great food and a lot of fun! Missed Sandy and Katherine!
