Steve's Story

Life Well since I left PA I spent 4+ years in the Navy at Jacksonville Fla. I came home to PA for a couple of years. Then went to California to visit and ended up staying there for 11 years working Offshore Oil fields for Shell Oil Company. In 1995 I came down here to Louisiana to work on Shell's Deepwater projects. In 2002 Shell added a new Tension Leg Platform. Brutus TLP and I was fortunate enough to be part of the project Shortly after the start to float out into the gulf. We built it from the ground up and that is where I am currently at, about 110 miles off the coast of Louisiana working a 2 weeks on 2 weeks off schedule. Nice getting a vacation every month. The wife and I live about 30 miles north of the Big Easy New Orleans and love it down here. I have been on Bourbon Street for Marde Gras for the last 7 years. I hope to spend maybe 10 more years in the oil fields and not sure where I will retire to. School I went to Norwin High school for 10th grade when I joined the Military while ...Expand for more
in the military I got into a program that let me graduate from high school with a diploma from Norwin. The Class of 79. Since then I lost touch with most everyone I grew up with. I met my wife in 1976 and we was married in 1979 and is still married living in Louisiana. Workplace I have worked in the offshore oil fields since 1984 where I hired on with Shell Oil Company Drilling offshore California. I worked in the Offshore Drilling department for about 3 1/2 years. I transfered to Production in 1987 working on the same platform. In 1995 I transfered to a developing division offshore Louisiana Shell Deepwater Division on Platform Auger. In 2002 I transfered to a new facilities and was fortunate to be on the building and float out of a new facilities Tension Leg Platform Brutus. Military I was fortunate when I got out of my A school and ended up in VP-16 where I was able to enjoy alot of travel overseas. Also made some really good friends at the time but as life goes I never kept in touch.
