Steve's Story
Howdy! Here's 30 years of personal history in a not-so-tiny nutshell...
I have lived in Florida for some 26 years now. I live on Merritt Island, which is where the Space Shuttle launches from (on Kennedy Space Center). I got married in 1993 to my wife, Donna, and we have an 11-year old son named Corey. I love them both dearly!
I left KC in 1982 and worked for McDonnell Douglas at Kennedy Space Center on Space Shuttle payloads. I was there for 5 years until the first shuttle (Challenger) blew up in 1986 just after launch. I had worked with that crew a lot. Following that mishap I went to work "across the river" as they say at Cape Canaveral with expendable launch vehicles (unmanned). I worked for Lockheed Martin on the Titan rocket as a Guidance and Flight Control engineer for the next 17 years until the program ended.
I was off work for about 6 of the most wonderful months until I took another job as a senior systems test engineer for a company that makes thermal weapon sights for the military (they mount on machine guns and allow clear visibility in total darkness). I wa...Expand for more
s able to work myself into the area of leading the testing of these thermal weapon sights with live fire on full-auto machine guns every day. I have shot over 875,000 rounds on M4A1 machine guns. Things were fine until I reached the point where OTHER parts of my job were just stressing me and wearing me down way more than I was comfortable with. Consequently, I quit that job this last Valentine's Day and have been not-so-feverishly seeking re-employment since then. Unfortunately, I LOVE not working! Fortunately though, I can kind of afford it.
Guess what, Jeff Laughlin is still my best friend and we stay in touch. He drops by to visit from the west Florida coast often. It's really cool to still have a close friend from 30 years ago!
I don't think that either one of us is going to make it to Kelli's 30-year reunion unfortunately, but I sure can't wait to see a bunch of pictures from it! Please drop me an email if you have the time. I love to hear about where old classmates are, where they have been, how their family is, and what they are doing these days.
God bless!
