Steve's Story
After high school, I went to college (Colgate, Class of 1974) and participated in the Washington Study Group, where I got to sample short internships with a Congressman and the Dept of Commerce.
Following graduation, I worked as an Assistant National Bank Examiner, then head of a bank audit department that I got to start from the ground up. Went to graduate school (Boston University GSM, MBA 1982) and followed this up with a position as the CFO of a small bank. Worked for a time in the securities industry (mortgage backed securities and hedging same), consulting, auditing and was an accountant for a med-tech company. Right now I'm "between opportunities" and welcome leads from old friends.
I was married for 20 years, and am now divorced. I have three great kids. The oldest was a late starter in the academic world, but is now making great strides and A's while working as the assistant manager of a store. Eric likes to work out, sketch (good artist) and mix music on the PC. He's also an excellent cook.
My daughter is an artist -- painter -- and was business manager for a small company in NYC that sold Broadway tickets. Her artwork appeared for a time on an Emmy - winning documentary series, "Secrets of New York", but unfortunately, the show got canceled. She did ...Expand for more
get to go to the Emmy's, though.
My youngest son is an avid outdoorsman, and shares my love of skiing and hiking. We had some amazing adventures last year -- camping on Mt. Mitchell with a wind chill of -40, climbing Tuckerman's Ravine on Mt Washington and skiing down it, camping among wild horses at Grayson Highlands/Mt Rogers, VA. Stuart catches the fish and collects the berries, and Eric shows us how to cook them.
Stuart's latest accomplishment is climbing Mt Whitney in CA via the mountaineering route. He set up and executed the trip himself. Mt Whitney is the highest peak in the lower 48 states at just under 14,500'.
My latest accomplishment is to lose 15 lbs, and am working on more. I'd like to try my own "14er", but it would be easier if I didn't have to haul so much blubber to the top.
All told, I'm pretty happy. I thought I had a pretty good marriage, but my ex disabused me of any self congratulation in that department. The dating scene after 40 is pretty scary -- I keep hooking up with bi-polars -- so I've retired the jersey for a while. Let's see: "Wanted SWF with a love of the outdoors (especially skiing, hiking and golf), history, dinners out, dancing, drama (watching it, not creating it), music, etc". You know the drill -- a renaissance person. :-)
