Steve's Story
Attended South Kitsap HS 1975-78, Central Washington University 1979-83 (BS Aerospace Science).
After high school, I worked a year at Bremerton Ambulance as a dispatcher and then an EMT. I attended Central Washington University from 1979-83.
I began flying light airplanes at age 19. I worked summers at the US Forest Service as a wildland heli-tack firefighter to pay for the expensive flying habit. While at CWU, I earned my private, commercial pilot licenses and multi-engine and instrument ratings. This led me to get a Commission and spend over 27 years in the US Army and Air Force, both active duty, Reserve, and Guard. Most of that time as a fixed and rotary-wing pilot. Concurrently, while in the Reserves,
I had an awesome and very rewarding19-year career as a firefighter, paramedic, and dive rescue technician. I retired from West Pierce Fire & Rescue in 2013 as Captain/Paramedic and Fireboat Captain.
After failing retirement twice, I began my third career as an airline pilot with Alaska Airlines in 2013. I plan to fully retire in early 2024. Spending more time with my beautiful wife of over 35 years, Lisa. I’m also a very proud dad of two adult sons. The oldest a UW grad and currently a cyber security engineer for Mastercard and Cyber Security Officer for the WA Air National Guard. The youngest is a WSU grad and an engineer in Boston, with US Department of Transportation. More blessings than I can count.
In 2024, Golfing, bagpipes, camping, fishing, and enduro motorcycle riding are on the calendar, as well as some international travel.
