Steve's Story
I have two daughters and 6 grandchildren who are the light of my life. I am a full time Union Representative for the National Association of Letter Carriers. I have been with the Postal Service for 28 years and carried mail in Azusa for 16 years. I am living in Glendora and working in City of Industry. I still see a lot of the people I grew up with in Azusa as many of them still live in the area but am always looking to hear from some of my classmates.
Workplace
Wow, where do I begin? I started my work career when I was 14 years old working at Certified Market in Azusa. From there it was on to Old World Deli in West Covina, Bobs Big Boy in Covina, then on to California Tool and Die with the Mcwlliam family (thanks Dan!!). I stayed there until I entered the Marines. Upon my discharge I worked at B of A in the Credit Card Fraud Dept. Then on to Alarcon Grading, Starky Plumbing, and Taylormade Trucking. I begin my career with the Post Office in November of 1983 as a Letter Carrier in Corona Del Mar and transferred to Azusa in 1985. In 1...Expand for more
989 I became a Union Steward and was elected to a part-time officers position in 1998 which I still hold. In 2001 I was selected to be a Dispute Resolution Representative and have been here ever since. I am a quasi-arbitrator and my job entails resolving or attempting to resolve grievances filed by letter carriers or the Union on behalf of letter carriers.
Military
I signed up for the U. S. Marines right after high school under the Delayed Enlistment Program. I begin boot camp at MCRD San Diego in March of 1976. After graduating from boot camp I moved on to Schools Battalion at Camp Pendleton for training. From there it was on to the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing at MCAS(H) Tustin where I ended up for the rest of my time. I served with a lot of outstanding Marines some of who I still am in contact with. I pray each and everyday for my brother and sister Marines who are serving in Afghanistan and Iraq and all around the world. It is their sacrifices that allow all of us to live our lives the way we do because freedom is not free. Semper Fi!!
