Steve Hathorn:

CLASS OF 1963
Miami, FL

Steve's Story

OMG!!! 45 years and a life time of living have come and gone since 1963 and all the friends we shared. How is everyone doing these autumn years of our lives? What do you say to old friends and acquaintances of life gone by? Do I remember you all, you bet, like it was yesterday!! I even see someone on a regular basis who I grew up with from Elementary, Junior and High School days, we do a lot of remember whens. Occasionally, I will log on when the pesky Classmates advertisement sends an email trying to get my money, just to see who is still out there and what is happening. At this moment I have acquiesced, bought the 1 year deal and here is my story for now. After High School, it was six months and I was gone from the nest. I joined the Navy and never came back to South Florida to live. I saw the world, many times while serving, the Mediterranean was my back yard. After the Navy I came back to settle down to married life, frankly, the hippie movement, drugs, free spirit and sex was rampant, and played hell on any serious intentions of a permanent relationship. We both were extremely young and even though we had a daughter from our union, our interests for each other was torn apart by drugs and pot. Single again I held off of any serious relations for quite a few years. Too much partying went on, I did take my work seriously and rarely missed a day ever, even to this day I have been dedicated to my career. In 1978, I again got...Expand for more
the wander foot and decided to work overseas in the middle east, and I spent five years of my life in Saudi Arabia and Israel. Probably some of the most fun I ever had. It was a lot of work and I can say extremely challanging, as a Construction Project Manager for two different Companies, electrical distribution and engineering was my contribution to the industry. See the world, you bet, Thailand, Switzerland, England, France, Spain, Italy, Turkey, Maltese Island, Egypt, Israel, Saudi, and there's more. I even considered Iraq, but common sense held me back. Life in general for me has taken a lot of different country roads, and the forks were many as were the choices I made. Not all were necessarily the right ones. Lord knows I have taken many wrong turns, as well as good ones and it has been like a labyrinth, you know the end is somewhere and you keep going. If we could only use our hindsight to see the future. I am remarried again for 16 years now, and this is the love of my life. I have been an electrical contractor for the past twenty years, that too has been a yoyo, or has seen it's ups and downs. Just depends on the jobs, the economy, and frame of mind. I still am as optimistic as I have ever been, I won't quote Forest Gump. As a key note for those of you who knew my parents, they are like the ever ready battery, still goin, not as strong as they used to be but still going. All I can say is, it has been a real trip so far.
