Steve's Story
By education, I'm an engineer. By vocation, a writer, editor, consultant, seminar and training program developer, and voice actor. By temperament, a mathematician and a philosoper.
My favorite quotes help to explain me better than a more direct description would. They change from time to time, but here are a few of my perennial favorites:
"True terror is to wake up and realize that your high school class is running the country." -- Kurt Vonnegut
"The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has limits." -- Albert Einstein
"Curiosity is the cornerstone of a sound scientific attitude." -- Albert Einstein
"History doesn't repeat itself -- but sometimes it rhymes." -- Mark Twain
"There are three kinds of lies -- lies, damned lies, and statistics." -- Mark Twain
"Reading made Don Quixote a gentleman. Believing what he read made him mad." -- George Bernard Shaw
"G-d ...Expand for more
is a comedian playing to an audience that's afraid to laugh." -- Voltaire
"The fact that a believer is happier than a skeptic is no more to the point than the fact that a drunken man is happier than a sober one." -- George Bernard Shaw
"No man can step into the same river twice. The second time it is not the same river -- and he is not the same man." -- Heraclitus
"The two most important jobs in the world are entrusted to amateurs -- citizenship and parenthood." -- anonymous (Greece, c. 1000 BC)
"If you laid all the economists end to end, they still wouldn't reach a conclusion." -- George Bernard Shaw
---------
In "You Can't Take it With You", Grandpa Vanderhof provides the best philosophical comment I know of --
"How many of us when we're young would be willing to settle for what we finally achieve? It's only a fortunate few who get close."
On that basis, I have few complaints.
