Steven's Story
Starting now and working backwards
It's the day after the Friday night 30th reunion party. I'm really glad I went.
Since my family moved after our sophomore year I hadn't seen most of my schoolmates for 32 years.
With the help of the email roster on the web site I think it'll be easier to stay in touch and the 35th or 40th will be even more fun.
The recording studio is pretty much done and it's been a lot of fun to work on the various music projects that come my way.
What I wrote last year when I first joined Classmates.com:
I am just about finished with the four-year process of building a recording studio.
For the last ten years I had been recording various bands out of the small "studio" in my garage and when an up-and-comming band left because I didn't have any isolation rooms I realized I wanted to step things up.
Before that I had been in and out of various rock bands. Some were lounge/bar bands others were non-gigging original bands where I played keys, guitar and sax.
I was training for my first marathon and playing in a bar band back in '96. It was after a 5K on the morning after playing in a smokey club the night before that I realized I had to choose one or the other. That was the last band I have been in.
My wife Karen and I bought some property in Duvall in '93 and lived in a trailer while we built our house. The idea was to have enough room so she could build a barn and arena for her horse. She competes in show jumping. I would take one of the bays of the garage as my music room to work on my album (CD).
We had moved into a house in Woodinville that we bought together (unmarried) in '85 after dating for a year.
I was able to use the downstairs as my music room.
On the weekends I would be pulling in (after a gig and drive home) just about the time she was getting up to go ride or compete. But it was fun. We got married the next year.

ted her (and a friend so it wouldn't seem like a date) to lunch. She invited me to go water skiing. We had a ball. Okay, we still do.
The field of programming was booming in the early 80's so when this 2nd year college drop out said he'd taken some calculus and computer science courses a job offer was made.
I liked to roller skate and so being an out-of-work second year college student I took a job at Lynnwood's Roll-a-way skate and bowling center.
I really liked it and had not done very well at Washington State and when fall came I drove over and got my stuff. That would be pretty much it for my formal education. One of the grown ups that skated there was a night operator at an electronics firm looking for an entry level programmer so I went in for an interview.
Then the mountain blew up. We saw the ash coming as the sun was going down. It was a warm summer evening, dark too soon, and it was snowing grey flakes. My grades were horrible so when they said that anyone experiencing health issues could leave early I got out of there.
The first year at WSU was pretty fun. I joined Delta Tau Delta fraternity since it sounded more cool than Farm House (where I probably would have fit in better). How is a person supposed to concentrate on school with so many things going on??
I didn't get to graduate from Kentridge. My folks moved us to Edmonds after my sophmore year. It was hard leaving the place where I'd grown up and knew most of my classmates since our first days at Lake Youngs and Fairwood. I was proud of my green and gold letterman's jacket and wore it to school at Edmonds quite a bit.
We had a really good coach for track and cross-country so I did get to at least make some friends through that.
The music department at Edmonds was really small and weak. Nothing like what we had with Mr. Moses.
I didn't join band.
So my last memories of Kentridge are jazz band (where Mr. Moses taught me how to read chord charts) and running.
Good times!
