For almost two years now I've been in recovery for substance abuse. I attend weekly meetings called Celebrate Recovery. It is a twelve step program based on the words of Crist Jesus, specifically the Beatitudes you'ld find in the book of Matthew. On August 31st, 2006, I made the decision to ask Jesus to come into my heart and save me fron myself. To my amazement he is faithful and did just that. What an Awesome God I serve. Having been in and out of the Department of Corrections since 1999 had really taken a toll, not only myself, but my family as well. I had believed every relationship to be in complete ruins and every bridge completely burnt. I spent the last twelve months in a Theraputic Community living enviroment. Oh what a joy that was. Not! I did however learn so much about not only myself, but what it really takes to make a family run in a general way. The bridges that I had thought burnt, didn't quite burn at all. Today I am able to look my family in the eye. I realize that it will take time for the wounds to heal, they have been treated,cleaned and dressed. So it's a start. As a stipulation of my probation and parole I'm required to attend aftercare. For twelve grueling weeks. Just joking, I rather enjoy the fellowship.
