Steven's Story

Life Joined "Uncle Sam's Canoe Club", and stayed for twelve years running nuclear power plants on submarines. Retired from the reserve's as a Chief. Married 14 long years, while running a horse farm in Wisconsin. Divorced her, and the horses (all 28 of them!). I've worked at Case, Chrysler, Johnson Wax, and think I've found a keeper with Harley-Davidson...yes, I own one! I'm managements worst nightmare...a "dumb blue collar worker" with a degree in bullsh..er, ah, I mean management! I have been "living in sin" for the past five years with the love of my life, Linda (why else would I stay in Wisconsin...it snows here ya know!). No Children of my own, but get to enjoy being the best Step-dad I can be to Amanda. Our Yorkies, Bandit and Shakespeare are the only kids still at home. We'll Harley went to a two-tiered wage system, so I quit..and left manufacturing altogether. I know work (or will work, once it's built!) at a 'Super-critical' pulverized coal power plant. It's closer to home, pays more, and they can't move the plant to China and...Expand for more
sell the electrons here! School Yea, like anybody's interested! I was to busy working and scuba diving! As I understand it, everyone thought I was a "Narc" anyway. To set the record straight...I wasn't. College I did the accelerated program down in Kenosha. Took me eighteen months to finish a four year degree in management and communication, and didn't learn much of anything I didn't already know. I was fourty years old when I started, and had already read several scores of books on management! Case Company paid for 80% of the cost...no student loans for me! Workplace This job was my first introduction to the "Real World" after 12 years running nuc plants on submarines. During my twelve years there I developed into a top-notch industrial electrician. I also learned that my ideas about Union's were wrong...they aren't the major cause of the decline of American manufacuring (minor cause...maybe). I thought management in the Navy was screwed up! Boy was I wrong. Management, more correctly, mismanagement is the biggest problem!
